Rob, how did you end up needing to make a repair in the first place?

The sailing rudder snapped off shortly after I launched in Trinidad a couple weeks before TRW2.  I had my rudder bungied down during TRW2

Damn you must have hit something hard. I've bent my fin rods plenty but I've never snapped the rudder off yet.

Turning on my AI is kinda hard, if I dont pull the down cable taught and cleat it.  I'm still not sure why that is, but it's very apparent when you want to use the rudder in the shallow position.  Then it was hella hard to turn it!

I also need to replace the up/down cable on the AI, as it's already starting to wear.  And then I still need to fix my OB for the right turn cable that sheared off.

The rudder on my Revo isn't quite right either.  I adjusted the steering line to get better left and right turning but now it's hard to deploy sometimes.  For something that should be really simple, the Hobie rudder systems aren't simple at all.  We need to have a Hobie Rudder clinic at one of the upcoming events.  It would be great to get them "tuned" and working properly for the entire fleet.

I found it'll help if you "wiggle" the left/right handle while  bring the rudder up/down.

If my steering lines are too tight, the rudder is hard to get up and down.  I find the adjustments are a fine line sometimes between response and being too tight.

Maybe We all should set a repair the rudder BBQ day at one of the Hobbie shops so we can buy repair parts and replacement lines, I know I still have problems with mine.
If We could get someone from the Kayak shop to advised us, We all could bring some grub.
It would be nice to have everyone in top shape before Albion.

I did mine right before GS7. What a PITA!!!
I have the old school lever up and down, not the rip cord.
Use a mirror and a flashlight in the center hatch to see what you are doing.
Make damned sure not to cross the cords. That was one of the most difficult parts.
Before you get things finalized, MAKE SURE YOU DIDN'T CROSS THE CORDS! (Trust me)
Don't attach the cords to the rudder until you've made sure YOU DID'T CROSS THE CORDS.
Make sure after you've checked the cords, attached the ends to the rudder and tightened everything you DIDN'T ACCIDENTALLT DROP AND FORGET TO REINSTALL THE WASHER THAT GOES TO THE CAM ON THE RUDDER. (Trust me)
Hope this helps. Have fun.  :smt011 :smt044
