At GS6 I discovered the Hillbilly beer cap scaler. Take  a piece of 1/2 -3/4"  board. I coated mine with polyurethane. Cut it about 3 beer caps wide The caps can overhang the wood edge. Screw down 9-12 caps. Cut a piece of dowl at an angle and screw it into the other side. Works great on rock cod scales.

Sweet! who taught you that one? Jethro Boudin down by the Cement Pond  :smt044

I will be more than happy to show you the fillet method, but if I catch a Hali nobody can fillet PAC Hali that Ravensblack...I pickup a thing or two when I saw him filet one...

Salmon steaks work great for smoking.  The skin and bone peel like a bannan when its done.

Given the likelyhood of big lings etc at Shelter, a big blade like a butcher knife and a hammer to steak the fish might be a good idea. Just don't use a cast metal Ab  hammer to steak them  and forget the broken parts , so the maintenance guy is up till 3AM unjamming Shelter's fish mincer! Just ribbing Bro, shit happens. In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.

Cutco knife is the way to go. The knife holder turns into a skin gripper which makes holding the skin easier. Also the blade extends out to make a more flexible blade. Not to mention they are guaranteed forever. I also use mine to cut all my Deer and Elk Jerky works better than a slicer.

Just checked out the Cutco fillet knife on You tube...very cool features...pricey, but looks top notch...They always say, the job is always easier when you're using the right tool...
