This is probably a can O' worms...wondering what everyone's take is. There are moments when I first get out on the water just as the suns coming up, no wind, glass water...awesome moments where you take it all in and thank God for all the beauty around you....those moments I just cant image playing music in my yak...it just isnt right...

Then there are times when I've been out for 5 hours, had my lunch, and wouldn't mind putting on some Stones or Floyd....not loud with speakers hanging off my slide mounts (kinda like those obnoxious ski boats) but just some music going...Of course there's the fishing factor and am I chasing all the fish away...I guess I could rationalize it if I were trolling and my line was 30' behind me and 30 feet deep...

I dont have any speakers in the boat and dont think I want to wear ear buds...they do have those small portable iPod speakers though...just wondering...

I too have thought some tunes would be nice at times, but absolutely hate loud music from boats overwhelming everybody and everything else, so I have abstained. Also, when on big blue, I want to hear what's happening around me - a whale nearby, furbags getting too close to the stringer . . .

A Giants game on the heaqdphones while bass fishing, near perfect if they win and it's a good game.
I always have my Walkman and/or Ipod.

I keep my phone in a dry pouch and listen to the music turned down low. Nice to have some background music on those long paddle days.

Second what yakhopper said.  I just play my music through a dry case.  You can even use the touchscreen through it.  I usually use it to mask other unpleasant sounds (cars, boats, construction, etc. )

This is what I use (Grace Digital Eco Extreme). Its great for those days when you want a little music to keep you company while fishing,on anchor, paddling, or relaxing on the beach. It also allows you to still hear whats going on around you unlike headphone option. It doubles as a dry box for your other items like car keys.

Erik, how is the performance of the Eco?
Looks like a solid unit with dual capabilities.

That box/speaker looks good, but one more thing for me to lose.
WSB fishing involves so little activity that I finally started bringing the little pocket radio I got free at a Giants game to keep me amused.  It's so cheap it doesn't pick up more than a couple of stations at home, but it works better out on Mntry Bay.   Maybe I'll upgrade to taking my Apple Shuffle, which I don't use now that I have a smart phone.

I like Music on long solo days out on the water.  I just keep my iPhone in my drybag, inside a ziplock.  It's not loud at all, but just loud enought that I can listen to talk radio if I want, or the Padora Comedy channel  :smt002

Tony its great! Anthony is the one who introduced me to it one day fishing on the river. I have two of them now so next time we are out I'll bring the second one and you can try it out.

Since its universal and works on any MP3 or Iphone with a headphone jack the only outside control is the volume. I usually put my music on shuffle and let it go. If you do want to change or control something it take two seconds and can easy be opened with one hand.

Oh yeah. Thanks for posting the link.  It is already on my wish list.  Wife will love this too while she drives boat and I watch the rod tips while salmon trolling!

What I would really like is a waterproof or cheap bluetooth headset that I can use in one ear.  :smt002
