Brother Mooch,

My only regret is we never got to do the motorcycle run we talked about.  You could of rode next to me any day, even on that man thing of yours.  I may have had to throw you a tow rope on the steeper hills ot get that thing to the top, but I would of done so with pride in my heart.  I am sure in the next life your scooter will find many sweet rides.  Who knows maybe angels are attracted to scooters, somehting tells me if anyone could pull it off it would be you!

I'm late to this news, and deeply saddened, but heartened that nothing can diminish the lively personality of the one and only Mooch. Every time I was fortunate to meet Joel, his irrepressible spirit shone bright as the sun. Peace to you and your family.

I love you brother Mooch. I am always happy when I am around you. You have always exuded honesty and integrity at the highest level. You are a very rare and special person. You should be very proud of the person you are. On the downside, you snore like a bear, your feet stink and you aren't much to look at.... :smt002.  No matter what my brother, I will always love you.

The first and only time I met Mooch was at Aquan while I was still living in the Bay Area, was shopping for a yak for my girlfriend.  I was still very green but knew who he was (a kayak fishing legend!  a God!) and we B.S.'d for a few minutes - his love of the sport was obvious and he oozed enthusiasm.  On my way out he gave me a copy of a kayak fishing magazine to read to keep me stoked at home.

Only posting this story so Joel knows that his personality and obvious love of life left an impression on even those who only had but a brief interaction with him.  I can only hope that one day I can become like him and ooze that same enthusiasm and light so that others are able to recall a brief encounter years later.

Enjoy the moments. I have, and I will remember you as such in those memories, alive and full of piss and vinegar. See ya on the other side my friend.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Just today found this thread.  Not quite sure what to say.. My heart is heavy. Joel, you've been in our family's prayers ever since your diagnosis and we will continue to pray for peace and comfort and that you'd be surrounded with love in the days ahead.

A couple of my favorite Mooch pics... Spent many days chasing sturgeon with you.  Great memories and I'm glad I was there to see your first and only sturgeon... before promptly announcing your retirement from the miserable sport of sturgeon kayak fishing.  Great times!

My first event was Clearlake about 4 years ago. Pulled in a day early with my son Cameron and arrived just as Mooch and Adam showed up. Mooch made Cameron feel right at home, got him on a SUP, and they shot verbal barbs back and forth all weekend.

Then a a year later at Paradise he was feeling well and breating heavy. Did it slow him? No he got the cute ranger to drive him around in her cart. Good form Mooch. You're an awsome guy.
