Thinking about getting out for some crab on Friday. Looking at forecasts up and down from TC to HMB.

I was thinking of trying from Fort Cronkite Beach on Friday and Pacifica on Saturday if you're interested.  I have never done Cronkite and have heard it can be a tough launch, but with the downtrending swells for the weekend, I may give it a shot.

How's the walk down to the beach at Fort Cronkite? Carry or wheel?

I was thinking of carrying, but that's all I ever do since I have no wheel setup.  From what I remember, the parking lot is only a stone's throw away from the beach.  My only concern is that even with a small swell, the launch and landing may be difficult (I'm willing to tip and flip, but I'm not willing to get smashed around).  I don't know how close you are to the beach, but I would feel bad if you had to drive a ways only to find out that it is a bit too crazy for launching and landing.  The beach is pretty close to me, so I was going to use Friday as a sample day.  If Marin is pretty far for you, I would recommend hitting Pacifica or HMB, maybe 3/4 mile or so off shore has been pretty good for me (you can check my posting from last week in Pacifica in the public fishing report forum).

I've got my eye on Saturday for a Half Moon Bay excursion.  If the weather holds, am planning to launch first lightish timeframe to try and catch a bit of the high tide.  Where ever you end up - have a good time!

I am in Placerville,  is there a safe part of the beach to launch if its closed out. I was also thinking Muir potentially, there is at least a small section that still launchable if the surf is up. It's all about the same drive unless I go farther north. HMB is always a good option. Winds looked like they were going to be laying down even more to the south earlier this week, but looks like its evening out now up and down the coast.

Im not sure about there being a safe spot at Cronkite if the surf is a little bigger, thats what I want to find out since it is wayyy closer than pacifica or HMB for me.  I think Muir would be a decent back up, I think the North end is sheltered.  Send me a PM if you want to try and coordinate something for tomorrow or Saturday, I will be going regardless, at the very least just to scope out launch sites at Cronkite.

I'll be hitting HMB again tomorrow morning guys. But probably looking at a 8am launch, and just checking some traps I baited today. Not going to stay out for long. But if you see me, out there in a bright orange yak, yellow pfd, come say hi. I should have a bunch of bait to give away since I forgot mine at home today and had to buy some more out there.
