Greetings,
I just bought a Hobie Quest Fish kayak and I'm interested in hooking up with other kayak fisherfolk around the Eureka/Arcata/Trinidad area. (I live in Arcata).
So far I've been out in Trinidad harbor a few times and caught some ling cod and blue rock fish. I'd like to learn to go out after salmon, where to find rock fish, what tides are best for fishing the area etc.
I've also got a speargun and freediving equipment. I was SCUBA qualified when I was 12 years old but haven't dove in many years. I really want to go out spearfishing and diving for abalone, scallops and anything else I could get up here in Humboldt county.
Anybody up this far north that could give me some info or that would be interested in showing me the ropes?

Nice to see a fellow far-nor cal member on the board!  I'm over the hill from you in Redding, but make the trip over once a month or so, depending on conditions/reports.  Last time over was for the opener, we fished Trinidad Bay and got spanked.  I've heard they've been doing much better now, and I hope to be over in about two weeks or so.  I don't know the area too well, but have scouted some spots further north that look really fishy.

Not sure on the abalone or spearfishing front, I tend to prefer being on top of the water!  Keep the reports coming in...

Tight Lines,
Ben
