+1, a sluggish site is far better than no site.

An update on the backup image ... at the rate it is going, it's going to be another ~18 hours before the image is complete.  That means the site will remain sluggish through tomorrow evening.  We'll be back to normal soon.  All further incremental backups will not cause this sluggishness moving forward.  Thank you for your patience on this.

I will look at the exact words when I get to work, it is an NCKA page saying the computer is a robot.

The backup sped up a little last night.  Current ETA for completion is in 5 hours.

Well, the backup completed, but we're still experiencing a performance degradation.  Debugging now ...
