They are out there on Ebay. I wanted a 501 myself, but since standard 500 models are so much more available and so similar, I went with one of those. Granted I am 6'4 with big hands, so reel size worked out fine with the 500.

Attached is before and after. I cleaned out the whole thing, lubed, added carbon fiber drag, added a steel spindle gear, and added an aluminum frame.

Nice reel.  I was kinda looking for the smaller spool version though

Just saw several on ebay.

Personally I would try for one that already has an aluminum frame. It is worth the extra $

If you're ever in SF area on a Sunday, there is a flea market in Alemany every Sunday. There's a guy selling fishing tackles and if I'm not mistaken has some old Penn reels, Jigmaster included. I don't care much for these reels so i never bothered with them.

As long as you stay with mono Penns are great. I have Tiburon and Accurate framed Penns but the spool to frame clearance will grab and pinch spectra.

I heard it could do that.  I was thinking of maybe putting a 80 braid on it if I find one.  I wanted to frame it w a Tiburon just like yours

I had a 501 with 55lb braid on it and never had a problem with it getting stuck. If you want it, it's next to the red can in Monterey about 110' down.

I want it.  It went down with the pole I'm guessing so it should be easy to snatch back up.. :smt044

You know, this gives me an idea... When I was a kid, my grandad lived next to a golf course. I used to swim for balls that people hit in the water. Sometimes, I would actually go retrieve one that some dude just lost. So, it makes me want to go down at piers and harbors and such and 'recycle' gear that way...

Snorkel, mask and fins next to boat launch the after 4th of July or Memorial day ect can be pretty productive I bet. Sunglasses, wallets, all kinds of shit down there I bet. People that only take their boats out a few times a year make mistakes.
