Nice fish and report. +1 on the feedback, while I have not been to the big hookups, I have been to some local hookups in my area and met a few guys from the southern area, anywhere below Redding. Every one of them has been rock solid. I belong to a few fourms, ok more than a few, and this is by far one of the best. You cant' beat the people here!!!

Hey got a question though, can someone point out the out the specific regulation that you can't share a stringer? California Fish and Game laws do not specifically require each person to have their own stringer; however, it is a violation to possess more than your limit of fish. If you allow others to share yours, make sure they remain with you at all times, or else you are likely to be cited for having an over limit. Guess you gotta have your own coolers too for each limit.

After reading this post and the third question I personally would steer to playing it on the safe side. Never know when you might get an A-hole for a  warden or just on a bad day. Even if you were legally right it saves you from going to court to prove your innocents.

So what happened to all the wannabe Fish and Wildlife Wardens??? So all of you guys that played the wannabe warden game can't even step up to the plate and acknowledge my post about the CORRECT regulations??? Not a single one. Haha. If you guys don't know the regs, you should't be giving advice about them. IMO, giving the wrong regulations is as bad poaching in my book, whether it was with good intentions or not.

So you're telling me to steer on the side of safety in case I run into an "A-hole" warden. Lets get it straight, NO warden will ever ticket you for that unless you are alone with your stringer. Your response implies that you guys stick together even if you guys are wrong.

You should also know who caught which fish. If you are not able to remember, you should separate your catch.  :smt006

Did you put your name on those fish?  :smt005 :smt044

I will explain it to you like the Warden explained it to me, If you have say 11 fish on your stringer, as with the case for me, and you are holding the stringer, then YOU are in possession of 11 fish, 1 over the limit. I was with my boys, at Hat Creek boys 7 and 5. One boy caught 6 the other 5 and I was carrying the family stringer. The Game Warden explain that he could write me a ticket, but said it was nice to see a guy with his boys and gave us a warning. I did ask him about the ice chest, he said with the fish OFF the stringer, 3 limits would be ok with 3 people able to fish. He was very cool about everything, but we all know there are some that aren't. I hope that helps, like a lot have said better be safe than sorry. Look forward to more of your post.

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and move on. Nothing positive can happen on this thread now.

I hope you and your friends get to go out again soon only with better luck.
I hope between you and your three friends there are 39 fish on one stringer. I hope you are carying that stringer too to help aleviate the strain of the weight of those fish from your friends shoulders.
I also hope a DFG warden approaches you to tell you how awesome you are and to give you and your friends kudos for having such amazing skill.
Looking forward to the report.  :smt002

Whoa, Pond King, you seem to want to pick a fight.  Way to go for finding information that supports your position, but it really doesn't change that people were trying to help you out.  I don't remember people saying anything about specific regulations.  Rather, people offered a friendly advisory that in their opinion you could be risking getting a ticket for using the one stringer - I think that was especially the case because you took some first timers fishing.  It's totally up to the warden's discretion when it comes to getting cited, so many of us choose to take the safe road that will minimize scrutiny and potential misidentification of the situation.

Anyway, you probably ought to either lighten up or take Glen's advice.

Some of the guys commenting here are DFG employees, some are fisheries professionals, and most are very knowledgeable and well versed in fishing regs.  When they see a new guy post up something that looks like it could be a bit iffy they feel obliged (in the best interest of the noob) to educate the individual. No need to get defensive, cuz they are just looking out for you.

I was just giving you my opinion of how I would address the situation. I would also suggest that you read the replies of your post throughly then think them over before responding in a negative fashion. There are a lot of well educated people here to help you out with information if needed.
