We found a dead 24" crappie there.  Yes a 24", we couldn't believe it.  It is a private small lake in Lodi surrounded by houses and apartments.  It was caught in May.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

24" crappie would beat the world record crappie by something like 2 1/2".

The Crappie fishing could only be described as CRAPPIE!  The water was pretty muddy and even though we could see them on the fish finders, they just wouldn't bite.  I tried every Crappie jig in my box for nada.  Scubaluis managed to get one but no others were caught.  I trolled the entire lake with a fire tiger  Rapala, looking for trout but not a bite.  Lake Hennessey is a beautiful little lake and always a great place to be but the fishing just wasn't happening today.

That was my first crappie and also my first fish for the year, I did get some crabs at crabfest but most of them were donated for the festivities. so I am not complaining.
I am sorry that HobieDave had to stay home sick but I am happy that I got to use his kayak, I must say that the outback feels way more stable than my adventure.

Nice to see some of the folks out at Hennessey (at least briefly). I arrived late and stayed until sunset and the action never materialized. Switched over to trout (Seps/Hoochie etc.) for nothing through the mid afternoon. Left the lake wondering if both the crappie and trout are still well offshore/deep relating to the shad.

Went to the lake last week and managed to get one largemouth bass (just under 3 lb.) and one medium size crappie. Both caught on steep drops working a small crappie jig tipped with a meal worm directly below the boat near bottom. Both fish were VERY white colored like they had emerged from deep water.

You got to pay your dues at this lake. Rarely fast action. Sure is pretty though.

Time for me to try some live shiner fishing for smallmouth at Folsom.
