Took BOB (Big Orange Boat / Hobie Adventure) back to Bodega Bay after my small success on Friday.  Got to Doran Beach ramp around 0700 and had to wait in line to park because all the power boats waiting to launch were blocking the parking slots.  Pedaled out to the same area as Friday and trolled every which way.  The fog would come and go but the ocean was perfect except for boat wakes.  I caught and released one rock fish (a Calico I think) and one two foot Ling Cod, both as I was trolling for Salmon.  I also caught two Salmon (a limit), a small keeper and a good one being 39" and 28 pounds.  The last Salmon (and biggest) dropped my last weight, so fortune was smiling.  I lost seven weights total, but the Ling Cod was one.  All fish were caught on a WMA and I was heading in around noon.  It was a great day and I'll be smiling for a week.  I was solo again, because no one wanted to join me.   :smt010

Great job hope it stays hot any pictures? Ever think of launching at the base of the jetty so you don't have to paddle the channel with the PBs?

Wish I could have joined you.  Spent all day on a charter with my Dad for nada, would have rather been out in my kayak but had a good time bonding with my Dad.  Good job on the salmon.

mickfish,
The channel isn't too bad, I just stay to one side and ride the wakes.  Campbell Cove (which bsteves recommended) is the best spot to launch (and it saves you $6), but it is difficult to get my kayak (big and heavy) down to the beach without help.  The single car parking spots by the Doran Beach ramp are a great place to park and rig.  On Friday, I had the two spots right next to the ramp so it doesn't get any better than that, except for the $6 that is.

Nice job today Windrider!  Love to see pics of your salmon (to remember what one looks like! heh)

I think the recent nearshore Pt Reyes salmon is heading north and Bodega will be a good place to be next weekend also.

Are you thinking about a rock cod/salmon combo trip next weekend?

Or will you be too busy eating salmon?!

Maybe hunting rock cod early and scanning the radio afterwards for a hot salmon bite nearby?

I wonder how many pounds of fish BOB could swallow in a day?

would be cool to fish with you.  thanks!

.... correct me if i'm wrong, but watermelon apex...?

there was a hot bite last week around the whistle buoy to elephant rock, if you know where that is.  trolling deep 100 ft+.

Windrider was fishing Friday around the gong buoy, and I assume the same today.

hope you have a good day out there Danglin...  let us know how it goes!

Craig is correct WMA = watermelon apex.  I did troll within a mile of the Gong Buoy again in water 45 to 100 feet and about 35 feet down.  I will miss the rock fish opener, I'm leaving for Idaho on July first for a week of fly fishing for trout Henry's Lake, Henry's Fork, South Fork of the Snake, etc.  I would love to hook-up with some of you when I return.  I forgot my camera, but I did get a picture when I got home and I"ll try to post it if I can, but I've never posted a picture before so bear with me.

Wow! Nice fish, thanks for the "technical breakdown" guys, Still trying to cut my teeth on this sport, loading my Mirage right now, and hopefully my wife will let me leave the beach for awhile. (she afraid a GWS will cut it's teeth on me...)...DANGLIN

quit nicknaming your kayak "Seal" and you should be fine...

WR - Great job on the limit.  It is good to read about someone getting into salmon.

Just got back from Doran beach/Bodega bay,Spent quality time with my twin boys catching small rock fish and mackeral, The water is a lake and the weather is even better.  Light breeze about 2 with fog taking over by 4. Lots of salmon coming in with the word being "south". Looks really incredible out there, go if you can...
