punk vandals...

...Hit my carved and painted address marker this morning at 3:30 am. I woke to the sound of clattering wood and got to the window in time to see a small car speed off with only the parking lights on.
Thought perhaps they had been messing with the mailboxes, but then it occurred to me.
A quick look with the flashlight showed the damage, my red vermilion was hacked to pieces with a hatchet, the address marker was in the street (that was what I had heard), and the non-cemented post was tossed over our fence a little ways down the road.

Oh well, I was going to Home Depot this weekend anyway. A sack of quik-crete, a 4x6, and a 2x12, some red paint and THE VERM will rise again!

Install a video device after rebuild. Even a game cam.

there's no resurrecting the original piece, it was destroyed. I'll have to cut out a new one.
I think they were trying to chop it off the post to steal it, which they couldn't do because it was attached with 1/8" thick steel straps. In their frustration they just whacked it with a hatchet or something and broke it into 5-6 pieces. Version 2.0 will be a bit more robust.

We put out a plug on the FB slice, wondering if they hit anyone else. It isn't common to get this happening up in our neck of the woods, but we've had our problems with tweekers and punks bringing hot cars etc up from Santa Cruz.

Meh.....I'd try anyway, big glue ball full of kindling and wood scrap with a " nice try suckers " message below it will draw em in.

It would be cool to rig a 'paint ball bomb' so if they tried hitting it again with the hatchet a huge paint ball would explode all over them. Or make it out of steel disguised as wood so they break their wrist next time.

I think you are doing the most healthy thing, Sean.  I don't get the sense that you are
looking for revenge or harboring hostility.  The vandels are suffering from an underdeveloped frontal lobe.
