Hey all! I'm new to this site and the whole kayak angler movement. I've done kayaking before, but nothing close to what I saw at Doran Beach this past weekend. I'm the sucka who won one of the two paintings, btw. I've still got a lot to learn before buying my first kayak so I'll be frequenting this site a lot. Hopefully you guys can help me pick out the best kayak for me. See ya around, folks!

EDIT: BTW, my name's Martin and I'm looking forward to the next event!

Welcome.
All I can say about choosing the right yak for you is.....paddle paddle paddle, peddle peddle peddle, demo as many as you can before you make your choice.
That being said there is a p15 in the classified that's a killer deal and a good ride, I've paddled that boat and its a good one.

Good luck

What James said about test paddling. Welcome aboard Martin.

Right on Martin!  Welcome to the site.  Yeah, Mooch P15 is a quite a deal.  Someone wants it first though so we are on the list.  If you decide to buy it you can take my spot.

There are a lot of us in the Sac area that will be willing to take you out for a test drive. I'm sure we have most brands and models covered. just let me or us know when you can go out for a hook up.

Also, welcome aboard

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome! Currently reading through http://www.oceankayak.com/kayaking_basics/how_to_choose_a_kayak/
Hopefully I'll be able to try out some yaks at HWK.

To show a few. Craigslist is awesome for finding a suitable yak in your price range.Good luck!

Hey Grim, thanks for the leads! i'm actually going to check out the OK Scupper and Prowler 13 this week since they're both owned by the same guy.

Welcome to the madness Martin!!! I'm sure you can pick up a lot of info from the guys (and gals) here on the forum....

Also, I bunch of them will be at Oniel Forebay this weekend, with various different types of kayaks; its a great place to test them out and chill with them...

Hope to see you on the water!

scupper is fast but not very stable.  P13 is stable, quick nimble and a bit of a wet ride.  P13 is a favorite for a few old-timers here, me includd. I've caught my biggest fish ever in a P13....

(Actually anyone's biggest fish in a P13, haha).
