I just got my first kayak late last year so am pretty new to this. I live in Fresno, put plan to fish the ocean as often as possible in spring and summer.  My question to you other traveling anglers is how do you secure your yaks when spending the night at a hotel? Cables though the scuppers, locking to the rack/trailer?

I use this, its the thickest cable I can find.  Forget the cheap ones from Walmart.

Get the fattest, quality cable that fits through a scupper hole & lock to whatever you can -- around a roof rack bar is usually OK. Don't go cheap on the cable, it's worth spending the extra $.

I recommend using a combination pad lock so you never have to worry about losing or forgetting your key.

It's also good to personalize your kayak with your name on it and load it with a bunch of stickers (so if gets stolen, you can have a better detailed description when report it to the cops)

+1

I usually get a ground floor room and hall them inside. To much money to leave them in the parking lot over night and taking a risk of walking out in the morning to a clipped cable lock even in a decent area. A cable lock is just a deterrent if they want it bad enough it will be gone in seconds.
