Low tide is at 5:27AM so there should be a good graylight bite.

Hightide is at 12:58 PM.

So don't get dismayed by a "lull" in the salmon action mid morning.

I'm actually more curious about the BIG stripers in the area  :smt002

Reports of salmon north of the gate and the crew that will be there are tempting.

But north of the gate is a bit far for me to drive, I think I will launch LM Saturday and possibly Sunday
depending on how much of a wreck I am after Saturday.

Probably arrive @ 5:30, launch @ 6:00 a.m.

If it is clear, I may head out to the deep (out of the cove, into colm territory) and troll for salmon.

If it is foggy, I will hug the coast and paddle north, possibly all the way to Sloat Avenue (how far is that?),
trolling something for the striper that have been seen boiling just out of the shore caster's reach as well as
being caught by the shore casters.

Both of these are kind of low percentage.

A halibut or WSB is also a possiblity. even lower percentage. but not zero,  :smt002.

I might be able to convince Leo, my long time surf bro, to join me, he caught a pile of Lings last summer with me,
but tries to stay as ignorant as possible when it comes to fishing.

Well, that's my plan. I'll have a VHF on channel 69. Yum Yum Yellow SPTW, big white truck.

J - if you go on Saturday, I suggest fishing the rockaway cove - that little cove has produced Halibut,Stripers and Salmon - IMO: it's a spot often overlooked by boaters. In fact, that's my game plan on Sunday. Launch from the South side of Linda Mar and paddle North right next to the surf and then go inside Rockaway - and if conditions allow, I'll even troll along Mori Point and back.

I'll be trolling an WMA (water melon apex) along the Linda Mar shoreline and I'll drift bait inside Rockaway :smt002

I'm in for LM on Sat at 6AM but never been there before.  Where do you park;  is it the same place as pacifica state beach?

pretty much, but park in the parking lot at the south end of the pacifica beach, not the parking lot in the middle.

follow the creek out to the beach, launch right down in the south end. I've only launched linda mar
twice but there wasn't much to it, batten the hatches and paddle like heck. then do it in reverse for the landing.

remember to come over sharp park drive and then south on 1, not 92, devil's slide is closed.

Is LM a good spot to learn how to launch through the surf?  There is a chance I could make it out on Sunday.  Maayyybeee.  Still waiting to catch a striper off the yak, to do it on the Pacific coast would be hella cool.

After paddling like a dog today (actually a real dog might have done better than I did at paddling in a straight direction) I still want to meet up at LM Sunday.

The thing is, I don't want to troll, so what alternatives exist for drift fishing?

Today's Bolinas crew (as far as I know) split into 3 sub-groups in search of bait and bite, and Scott and I paddled over 11 miles, at least 2 of which were trolling...  It was a super fun day and seeing everyone was very cool, even though we scratched on salmon and I had a double-SITE landing, but I don't wanna troll 2 lbs again until I get a rodholder.  My leg isn't in the mood to hold a trolling rod any more than my arms are willing to paddle a troll (not).

I don't have hair-raisers but I do have swimbait (no jig head).  (Hmm well I could make a run to Wal-Mart tonight. )  My bait torpedo is not quite done yet

Jason or Mooch (nice meeting you both this week by the way!) or anyone else, what could I/we fish for at LM without trolling, live bait, or hair-raisers (if I don't get my exhausted a$$ to Wal-Mart)?

Thanks for the advice!  Hope I make it tomorrow...

just drift anchovies or squid in the cove on a dropper loop bottom rig?  most likely kingfish, but could be halibut or striper
in the middle and north end or certainly rockfish over the rocks at the south end. well, I'm not destroyed, I might be
there again tomorrow.

IMO - no need to troll 2lb balls unless the fish are deep like they were early this season at Moss.  I'll trolled as little as 8 oz on sinker release (salmon head kind) with good success at LM.  I usually bring 12 or 16 oz balls.  Much easier to troll.

Thanks Kevin!  Good suggestion - next time I'll do 12 or 16 oz.

I checked my GPS this morning, actually put 14 miles on it paddling yesterday, tho' 1 mile was probably drifting.

Sorry to today's LM crew - I was just too beat to make it.... Hope you had fun today!  Next time please..
