24 Down W 0-5 early  Northwest windswell 4.7 ft @ 9 secs  3.5-4.0 ft  310 degrees
Sunday
6/25 Down NW 5-10 early  Northwest windswell 3.0 ft @ 9 secs  2.0-2.5 ft  310 degrees

Sunday looks like a decent day at LM. The swell is 3 @ 9 and the wave height is supposed to be 2-2.5. Not bad. Anyone up to see if salmon exist along the pacifica coast?

akounia, read stuart's article, or other posts, but here's a quick shopping list:

get yourself

reel with 30lb powerpro braid or equivalent. linecounter is good.

long, slower action rod.

3 65lb ball bearing swivels.

3 slidos

2 franko bullet rotators (crimp the barb)

1 watermelon apex or pro-troll sting-king (crimp the barb)

3 2/0 to 5/0 circle hooks (crimp the barb)

2 tin-whistle shaped sinker release, medium 3-4 lb.

2 1.5lb weights and 2 2.0lb weights.

1 size one double deep six diver (for if you run out of weights)

some 25lb mono or flouro leader.

a tray of herring and some ice to keep it on.

some size 2/0 circle hooks and assortment of 4-10 oz round mooching weights.

run the line through the slido, double the spectra, so you have 12 inches of double line.
tie to ball-bearing swivel ring with uni-knot.

if trolling:

snap the ball-bearing swivel to the sinker release. tie on the franko bullet rotator with a herring in there.
usually a 4' to 5' leader on there.

if mooching:

clip a weight to the slido, attach 4'-5' leader and circle hook to herring.

A big net is required. gaffing not a good idea due to there being a lot of prohibited silver (coho) salmon out there now.

don't keep the fish unless it has black gums (else it could be a silver (coho) salmon, $1000 fine for bringing it in)

limits: 20", 2 fish.

find fish by finding bait or signs of bait.

well that's a goof review for me too, all I have done so far is hook up one fish while trolling in 4 attempts
and lose it.  :smt010 but it was fun.

GPS with a compass backup is probably wise since you might end up a few miles out and the fog might come in.

J... yeah that is a comprehensive list, definitely for no holds barred trolling!

I would be in for LM on Sunday too, after Dux on Sat, I need the practice!

Akonuia, I have extra terminal and mooching tackle - if you can't accumulate all the stuff on the list J posted, just bring

2 rods:  a 20-50 lb line wt fiberglass or composite rod for trolling and if you have one, a long Heavy slower action (more bendy) rod for mooching.
reel with good 20 lb line and good drag
sinker release
3 2-2.5 lb cannonball weights (2 lbs is fine really)
2 trolling hooks slightly bent middle of shaft
pack of small rubber bands a little bigger and thicker than the ones for braces
30# leader of your choice
(they will set you up with all at a place like Outdoor Pro Shop)
tray of frozen anchovies

I always seem to have too many leaders pre-tied, so I can share those.

Jason, be seeing you later... My yak is still ready, right?  hehe

Good luck with the study group. Sometimes they can be fun. Sounds like this one probably isn't.

I'll be there in an orange P15.

I'll have my plug cutter with me too  so if you want to give that a try just give me a hail.  What channel do you guys monitor?

Chris.

PS. Plug cut herring slays 'em in Oregon.  Rig the same as a whole fish, with maybe a small flasher.

I'm thinking a 7am launch.  Anybody have a different launch time they want to propose. Mooch?
