I like the more open top mounts (baitcaster) for trolling small to medium fish, you can also use spinning rods in these just fine, I took all the rubber holders off and filed off the nubs so line doesnt snag on them. big fish you might want to go with tube style ( rodmaster)  when a real big fish hits the rod can be hard to get out of the tube but it holds. Quickdraws work ok, but sand them a little to get them to pop easier, ram mounts might be a little better here for large fish Hali and WSB etc

I use them all; bait caster, fly rod, rocket launcher. Depends on what type of fish I am targeting.

Bait caster holders are great for trolling, they keep the rod tip close to the water; allowing the lure to travel deeper.

Rocket launchers are great for use with a down rigger; allows you to get the proper bend in the rod to get that good hookset.

I've tried them all and own most of them but love the rocket launchers. I angle them towards the rear so pulling rods out of them ,after a bite, is easy.  Impossible for fish to pull the rods out of the rod holder even though its angled towards the rear.

I use the Scotty Orcas with extensions on my boat for toplining and the Scotty downriggers have rocket launchers.
My Hobie Pro Angler has two Scotty powerlocks on extensions.

Love the rocket launcher style.
x2 less hassle than the baitcasteror spinning specific rod mounts. Flipped twice with rods in the holders and when I got the yak right side up the rod was still in the holder.

On the AI I use:

Scotty Rocket Launchers: forward flush mounts, rear aka bar behind the seat, rear outer aka bar horizontal forward facing net, gall and rod storage under sail and plano box.
Scotty power lock: rear outer aka bar, nearest scotty mount
Assorted RAM conversions.

The downside of the Scotty rocket launcher and rodmaster is you need to leash the rod into the holder. I attach a pad eye to all rocket launchers and use a commercial leash, PatR uses a bungee system. Under sail, EVERYTHING needs to be leashed. Pat R gives me a hard time about it.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 S**t I farm a lot of stuff every year and it is way worse on the AI.

The main advantage of the rocket launcher:
1. Easy in and out
2. In a forward mount, doesn't interfere with peddling
3. Can be rotated verticle or horizontal for rod storage
