Yeah, happened awhile ago. I usually don't do the "sky is falling" thing, but removing the word Game from Fish and Game doesn't bode well for the future of consumptive users. "IMO"

according to Wiki:
Game is any animal hunted for food or not normally domesticated. Game animals are also hunted for sport.
The type and range of animals legitimately hunted. Sometimes a distinction is also made between varieties and species of a particular animal, such as wild or domestic turkey.
So eventually who will manage Game in California. Someday will Game not be allowed in calif. or just Hunters will be banned? Without hunters there can be no Game.

Fuckin' Jerry spending my money in frivolous ways again. I'm so glad we have a sales tax increase. With all the fresh dough going to the schools we can raid other funds for stupid shit like this. Assholes.

The softening of such heavy language is welcomed.
"Game" is so macho.  It puts pressure on who wins and looses.
It also takes focus from the animals true equality to humans.
"Wildlife" sounds free and unobstructed.
I now expect the wardens or "Nature Referees" to exchange there Ram pickups for
Beetles and Rav 4's.  :smt005

Since non-game wildlife regulation is to a large degree under the purview of DFG(W), I think the name change is appropriate.  I do not think that the cost is justified by the benefit, especially when the state is already strapped.  In the large scheme of things, I don't think the name change is a big deal.

I heard they aren't called Game Wardens either.  Can't remember their new title though...

Where's the cost benefit?? Where's the benefit at all? Except to the printers, sign makers, embrioderers, etc.

In 1970, the Department of Fish and Game turned 100 years old.
So it worked for 143 years and now suddenly the name needs to be changed.
Who was the numb nutz behind that one?

If it's any consolation, California's name change drops the word Game and now only 12 states have it in their agency.

One of only 13 states still using "Game" in the title of their wildlife agency in 2012, the state legislature changed the Department's name from Fish and Game to Fish and Wildlife, effective January 1, 2013. Eighteen other states use "wildlife," while the others generally use "natural resources" or "conservation", reflecting trends towards expansion of the agencies' missions from sportfishing and hunting alone, to protection of nongame wildlife and whole ecosystems. The legislation followed recommendations of a 51 member "stakeholder advisory group"

Two or three years ago I would have agreed with you, but after going thru the MLPA hearings, and watching HSUS worm it's way into the DFG, I think the name change is a very big deal.

I'm in full agreement with dale.

Ps....when do we start implementing wildlife permits for the fruitcakes that hang out in the woods with their binocs peeping the birds?  I can't wait for them to be subject to the same level of taxation as the fishing crowd.  Lets see how they feel when the shoes on the other foot, I may actually be pissed enough to start pushing for closures in wildlife viewing areas.

Come on Craig, tell us how you really feel. Haha. I was trying to remain calm when I first posted. I feel the same about stupidity of it but even more about the principle of it. Which because of the Idea that some of our own rank believe that its no big deal.
ATD how do you eat an Elephant? One piece at a time. And they are getting us to help them eat it. This "bite" was just a big enough swallow so more would think of it as "no big deal. Nor would some  realize how small the Elephant was getting. I was born and lived here 49 of my 54 yrs. That Elephant is getting frikkin small.
Art, SOON, if they can squeeze a dime out of it they are going too. They are going to have too. Jerry knows how to squeeze dimes.

I'm more upset about the cost of the uiniforms, decals, signs, paint and other costs of changing the name of an agency. Waste of money if you ask me.
