Launched with Vince and Anthony - we started our drift South of the Pier - in front of Genentech and ended a mile or so from Candle Stick Park. It was a LOOOONG drift and all we got were sharks. And I must point out that I'am the FIRST to catch yet another rare creature....a seven gill shark  :smt118 I caught 4 pups drifting with my halibut rig - with popsicles aka frozen anchovies. When I first saw the pup, I thought it was a baby thresher shark because of the tail. Then I noticed it had spots and no drosal fin on the back - I was also impressed by how friggin SHARP the teeth were on these little guys. My 20 # mono melted like butter when I rubbed the line on it's teeth  :smt106

Cool pics as usual man! I went to sleep with a fever about 7 pm Friday night and woke up around 10 pm and decided to chum the bathroom a bit. Woke up again around 4 am and chummed some more. No takers in my chum slick however...  :smt009

For some reason I get really sick Friday night, it is really pissing me off!!!

Vince slept most of the time while Anthony and I were busy keeping the sharks off our hooks...but when it was time to paddle back, as luck would have it, the winds caught our backs and we....or should I say Vince - sailed back to port  :smt003

Forget about the sharks, the Tshirt on Vinces net, the pics, How about the water and weather. I have not seen it look that nice ever.  At least when someone is on the water.

Jason, that day by far was the nicest day I have ever seen in s.s.f, and the water was so calm, it was like an indoor swimming pool with no one in it.

DESCRIPTION

7-gill sharks are distinguished by being the only shark species to have 7 gill slits. They also can be ID'd by having just one dorsal fin placed way back near the tail which is very long. 7-gill sharks are a light gray color with irregular dark or black spots or mottling.
7-gill sharks (Notorynchus cepedianus) are the principle large benthic predator off of the coast of the central eastern pacific and can be found in nearly all oceans and are rivaled only by the larger 6-gill shark and the giant pacific sleeper shark.
7-gill sharks can be found seasonally in shallow waters 50'-100' but they spend most of there time at great depths. 7-gill sharks can be found in all of the worlds deepest oceans.

REPRODUCTION

Female 7-gill sharks give birth to live young that are approximately 14"-16" in. long. Gestation is believed to be around 10-12 months with varying litters of 10-25 pups. 7-gill sharks mature at 8-12 years and at lengths of 7'-8' ft. maximum length is over 12' ft and 1000 lbs.

Cradle robber!  Those sharks couldn't have been more than a couple of weeks old!!!   :smt004
