I simply cannot get enough of talking about fishing, reading about GS7, outfitting my kayak, and helpful tips. Everyone I've spoken to has been so helpful. One guy even volunteered to lend me a paddle and pfd yesterday because I didn't have any. I don't know this guy from Adam, yet he was willing to do that! That's the good stuff right there...I roll like that too! The enthusiasm here is so palpable. GS7 is looking awesome! I'm excited for all participants. Everything is so well organized. Eric, you gave me the kayak fishing bug three months ago, watching those YouTube videos of yours. I'm on fire and down for this endeavor 100%! I got my hands on a Eddyline Caribbean 12' couple weeks ago and in the process of getting outfitted. I hope to be year and GS8 and meet you, maybe even fish with you. My best to you all!  :smt006

Just because you are not in the Tournament, doesnt mean you have to not go; that's only half the experience of GS events. Come down, enjoy the festivities and test you new ride while scouting out the water... The experience will pay great dividends for you at GS8.

BTW: Welcome to the insanity!!!! There are more events to come...

Glen

http://lostcoastoutpost.com/2013/may/12/law-enforcement-expands-manhunt-new-boundries/

There will likely be significant law enforcement presence in the cove as the manhunt for Shane Miller expands. This could involve roadblocks and vehicle searches, which are already going on in the Mattole Valley. Shane Miller is wanted  for a triple homicide in Shasta county. The Kings Range remains closed.

Lets be conscious and respectful and try to stay out of the way. Obviously if you see this guy report it immediately.

2 days to the cove, can't wait!  Anticipation building, weather looks reasonable, should be epic. Epic.

There are no roadblocks going to Shelter Cove and the police presence will still be minimal.  The truck is there for improving communications and it is highly unlikely that he would be headed for the Cove.  Hopefully they find his body soon though.

That would make sense. Hope that's right, LCO has been wrong before.

And yes, please let's have his body turn up soon.

Slammed at work right now, but I need to say something about this issue.

This fugitive killed his wife and two little girls in Oregon and then came back to where he grew up in SoHum.  He's on the loose and it's a big deal.  Everyone needs to be aware of it.  Hopefully it'll be over by the time people are hitting the road for the Cove.  Please educate yourself a bit and be mindful of it.  I'm very surprised it hasn't been on the national news - or maybe I missed it.

This is ANOTHER reason to be very careful on the road.  Once we're at the Cove we will be a strong group, and safe travels along the way need to be a focus.

Thanks.

Well said Eric.  I have been following the story for a couple of days and wondered if he could be near the "Cove".  My Norcal geography knowledge isn't real strong but it sounded to me like they were looking in the areas some of us may travel through on our way to the cove.  Doors locked and eyes wide open!

I was down there the day the search started.  The dude has serious ground to cover before reaching the Cove and it is more likely that he would be seen by law enforcement or someone else before making it.  The guy is probably dead or just hiding deep in the woods.

I've gone from mouth of the mattole to shelter cove on foot in 30 hours.  Serious ground, sure, but its only 25 miles or so.  Even cutting up into the hills it can easily be done in 2 days.  That said, that guy could be anywhere and it is unlikely that he will come near whitethorn road or the cove.  Still, it is a low probability high impact situation and pays to be vigilant.

Anyone know is the Miller cabin at Big Flat the same family?  The one with the airstrip?

admins might want a separate thread about caution and an open eye on the way GS7 do to a walking "TURD" on the run..
