Ouch, that's gotta hurt.
Maybe he should have watched this documentary first to get a real view of what it might be like.

Thanks for the news.  I was wondering when he was finally going to start his voyage. Sorry to hear it ended so fast.  Glad he's okay.

Hmmm.....

Winter time, during a big storm, during a series of storms, right up the Pineapple Express' path. Those NCKA guys are sitting warm by their fires and the commercial boats are docked waiting it out, hence it must be a good time to go cause the Coast Guard can't be that busy. Right?

It took him 5 months to paddle 15 miles? No wonder he was tired.

Wow.  From the initial article it sounded like he had a reasonable chance.  I wonder why the 5-month delay and strange decision to launch this time of year?

Guys a dipshit.

No he's not.....he's a professional adventurer.  Departing during the fair weather months of late summer and fall is for the average adventurers.  Professionals wait for the sh*t to hit the fan mid winter and launch the biggest storm of the season.  He's pro.

He might be a "pro" but doing that paddle in the middle of the winter just doesn't seem very smart.  All of our storms come from the west and he would potentially have to battle winds in excess of 50 mph on his way to Hawaii.  These winds would push him back to California, I don't care how hard you can paddle. Would have been much smarter to travel the other direction and let the wind blow you toward the main land.

I was thinking about getting a couple of guys to paddle across Monterey Bay next year but I would do it from Santa Cruz to Monterey in the spring and let the NW winds help blow me across.

With all the new AI kayaks out there with sails and such I'd imagine more folks would be trying to accomplish this feat!
Would be cool if one of our own did this.

a combination of midlife crisis and Sacramento Syndrome. I hope he pays for the fuel for the coastguard cutter.

Given his occupation as professional adventurer/numnutz, prolly judgment proof = good luck collecting bupkis

Vessel failure is a smokescreen - i'm tellin ya, he got caught slippin thinking about twinkies demise or some food thing and caved.  puss   :smt002
