I am in and I recommend this class to everyone to test their own skills.
I learn quick that you need the right PFD and that flipping a fully loaded kayak is a lot harder than an empty one.

Hi Dan! I would love to attend the rescue class! Possibly + 1.

We won't be arriving to the grounds until Saturday, so if we can get there in time, we will be there.
Question - Would it be a bad idea or a good idea to use my Dirego for the class? I know it's not a sea kayak, but it's what I use. Although I don't plan to do much in the ocean (Im obviously not set-up for that), I want to be prepared no matter what body of water I might be in. What are your thoughts?

Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into doing something like this. Woot! Woot!

Cheri, if your up for getting wet than I'm up for fishing you out. It is harder with a sit in side with no front bulkhead, but not much. I will show you a few steps that make it easy to get the water out.

Sure wish I could make it to take the class. Cold water will get the best of you in a hurry. The initial shock will cause you not to breath; at least for me. I have fallen in water several times, most on accident, and several times for training of getting my self back on the kayak.

I fell into Del Valle in the winter when the water was cold and I was in waders. They got water inside and were filiing up but my PFD kept my head up. I had to "relax" first to catch my breath then assess the situation. I tried to turn my kayak over  (yes ince again another fins up incident) but it was full of water. Thank goodness to stormscrambler and a few other guys who helped me out or it would have been a quick swim to the beach in some cold water. This incident taught me how to keep myself centered in my kayak.

Count me in for this one.  GF wants to know if you will also be doing any kayak surfing, as she is thinking of bringing her white water boat.

plan on playing a little bit in the surf but it really depends on conditions. Last week it was big and dumpy and not a fun place to learn at all. Last year however it was forgiving and easy. Victor and I were surfing a tandem. I'm of the mind set , if you have the room bring it.

And if you practice rescues out by the seal rock noting will get you back in your boat faster than knowing The Landlord likes that area with all those yummy sea lions around.

Great idea.  I would attend if I lived closer.
Each waterman should know this stuff because statistically speaking,
you WILL encounter a water emergency if you kayak long enough.
I applaud this instructor and encourage everyone to take heed.
Cheers! :smt006

Wasn't planning on making it to Crabfest (we don't eat crab...shellfish bad for those with blood pressure problems), but this sounds like a great learning opportunity. I might even try to video the class, it would be good reference material. Thanks for your hard work to make this a great event Dan.
