hahaha thanks guys I did like your set up G-whiz and the speakers too! Im am young and my kayak is not  :smt009 This FF would be one fore maybe a year untill I can upgrade/ have a job to pay for it. right now I have the Garmin Etrex HC GPs https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8707 could I hook it up to a FF like you do?  :smt007 Might just have to beg Sonny for the $40 unit and find a transducer that fits  :smt044

the eTrex will not work, it does not have the right data cable; not talking usb type...

this is the 4-pin type that garmin uses on some of there handhelds; 2 wires for power & 2 wires for NMEA data:

Christmas is coming, ask for gift cards to BPS , as they can be had in many regular stores or a gift certificate to West Marine or other favorite shop.  West will price match fairly easily, BPS price match is far more complicated.  A couple of Cards/Certificates can offset the price from a basic unit to the price of a better unit with out killing your budget.

Also wanted to add that a recent post on someones Garmin FF showed that it consumed far more battery life than other units, just FYI.
