What's next the elimination of fishing or crabbing because others don't like your legal ability to take. :thumbdown

This is the most idiotic statement

I can see the kid reference but these were grown people. Just because you come in contact with someone on the beach that doesn't agree with your legal take your suppose to abide to their sensitively.. Give me a F-ing break. What is this world coming too!  :smt011

There were laws broken that day, but not by the hunter.  Were those enforced?

Well this is a political issue. I'll comment might be pulled. Look the left gave them pot for fun. so it is easy to take some fishing away. The difference between a liberal and conservative is a conservative will say they don't like it. and then the conservative won't partake in such activities. If a liberal doesn't like it the liberal will force their beliefs on the rest by passing a law. Just my opinion If you check out Drakes Oyster farm problems stem from a liberal. It looks like the agendas mode of operation. Just my opinion.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Are you forgetting or deliberately omitting the abortion and gay marriage issues? Those are the worst cases of one group forcing their beliefs on another.

But back to the octopus; if I were that kid, I would have passed on killing such a cool, intelligent, and fascinating animal, but a knee-jerk law in response is excessive and hypocritical, especially if octopus will continue to be sold in restaurants and stores.

I agree... what the diver did wasn't smart as far as public perception... but some of the words/actions of conversationalists made me cringe.
Some treated it like their personal auditions to be on the Sea Shepherd campaign.

I think that if that kid was a few years older, he may have done things differently.  I think because he is a kid still, (Barely legal) he doesn't have the maturity yet to fully understand what or why everyone is in a huge stink over his actions.
Although now after reading the latest article, I think he got a huge dose of grown up-ism  Realizing his dreams of becomings a rescue diver are in jeopardy because dive shops & school have "Banned" him for his actions.
He could have released the thing, and gone elsewhere and avoided the whole mess!

A little tact would have served him well but he was partaking in a legal activity at a legal location and taking a species that isn't threatened or overfished.  I think those having a hissy fit and harassing the kid are the ones who could use a lesson in maturity. They could have realized that what they were doing was inappropriate and illegal and avoided the whole mess as well.

It's a slippery slope... there are a LOT of people out there who are anti-fishing/diving/hunting... no matter where it takes place.

As AbMan said... "There were laws broken that day, but not by the hunter."
What the diver did is 100% legal.  What many of the conservationists did/threatened... is not.

I see a lot of conservationists causing an uproar and not very many sportsmen standing up for what is a disappearing right to legally pursue game...

crud.

The take was totally legal. Nothing needed to be done.  :smt009
This sets a dangerous precedent to close all legal take just because someone finds it offensive.
So, so wrong.

My point exactly... slippery slope.

If this closure goes through, it will get dangerous.
With conservationists learning they can close areas with nothing more than public outcry... it'll be open hunting season... for scapegoats.   :smt013

Yeah, that sounds bad. Often if there are lots of people around, I'll be careful about letting them see anything I've caught, for this very reason.

This should be an ominus warning to all of us.  MLPA, and other acts will slowly erode a way of life for many of us.  I fear future generations will never know what hunting or fishing is, or for that matter what the outdoors is like.  Many Parents have no exposure to this life, so ergo neither do their kids.  Save Flipper, and the rest of the dolphins sounds like a noble cause.  A few generations from now our kids will have artificial Tuna flavored tofu sandwiches for lunch.

The nation that delivered great Marksmen like Cody, Earp, Lt Murphy, Gunny Haleck and Sgt York, is becoming the new Western Europe, where most youth are panzies and afrais of the dark, and think milk comes in Plastic jugs.

A woman at work asked me the opther day if I released those giant rock crabs I had caught, she was some quasi vegan wannabe.  Why would I do that, I reply, so ha can make more crabs, she replies.

May that uber liberal Walt Disney rot in his frozen ice pack, this all started with "Bambi."

The hypocrisy is that commercially caught fish will probably be available in stores and restaurants long after recreational fishing has been abolished. We're easy scapegoats and the big $$$ commercial industry is not.

I actually have a lot of respect for vegans and vegetarians, as long as they keep an open mind about recreational fishing.
