Son Alex and I soaked herring, anchovies and squid (looking for halibut) from 8-11:30 for two med. rockies and 2 queenfish straight out from Cap pier about a mile and then west about the same.  Calm but interesting weather - light mist for a while, got pretty dark, then lightened up.  Wind shifted to NW and picked up at noon.  Barely surfable swell at launch, got some practice doing that, sat on the sand congratulating myself for riding it in and forgot the next wave was coming.

I caught a 28" halibut last year first week of august, right at the kelp line where nobody fishes. probably real shallow there.

I think there is kind of a no-man's land between the kelp and the reef way out there everybody rockfishes. I have gone over
that area myself and caught nothing.

between the bouy outside pleasure point and the kelp there is a flat rocky stretch that has a lot of small rockfish.
