What's up NCKA?

My B-day is coming up, and I was just thinking about how LONG it's been since I've chased steelhead. I used to fish the Russian River for steelhead. That was some tough, slow fishing (for me, anyway), but SOO rewarding when you catch one of those beautiful fish.

Anyway, I'd like to take a steely chasing trip in early December. Anywhere is CA is fair game. Can you guys recommended a good spot for early Dec? CPR or legal take, kayak or non-yak (boulder hopping), doesn't much matter to me.

Thanks in advance!!!

I'll throw in a third vote for the Trinity.  Even though the upper river can get congested this time of year, the middle sections (say from Big Bar on down to Willow Creek) are virtually abandoned.  I caught a lot of nice fish around the Del Loma area last year in November and December, and hardly saw another angler.

Steelhead are in the American river for a closer option...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Really depends on the weather. We have metal showing on the Russian right now.

I think your best best will always be the Trinity but nothing beats a fresh coastal fish.

It hard to plan steelhead trips :smt004

IMHO I think steelhead are responsible for all the crab pot thefts around Doran... Their idea of a good time while waiting for the rain. Truly spiteful fish, man I love em'.

But yeah, the Trinity might be the best choice for a scheduled strike.
