I dive with soft weights because they are much more forgiving to my back.
This last dive with my new Yazbeck the weightbelt slid way up my chest. No matter how much I tightened it it was still sliding around.
I understand why.
My question is, Is there a rubber weightbelt that will accept soft weights?
I dive with 27 lbs of weight.
I found this belt :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Scuba-Diving-Spear-Fishing-Free-Dive-Rubber-Weight-Belt-Padded-Weight-Pouch-61-/180982447145?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSI%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BRTU%252BUA%252BFICS%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D180932999691%26ps%3D54

but it only holds a max of 19 lbs.
I would like to stick with my soft weights but I would also like a rubber belt to keep it from sliding when I dive.
Any ideas?

I don't know...but you gotta figure it out...the rubber belt makes a huge difference...

Why are the soft ones more forgiving? Do the hard ones dig into your lower back or ?

I've been tempted to try one of those weight vest thingys...I think brandi had one at GS6 and it looked sweet...just dont know if they make them with enough weight, I wear about the same amount of weight as you...

Its time to ditch all that scuba stuff my man.

I've heard these do wonders for a bad back.

If not try a rubber belt with 2lb wieghts, for a nice even distribution around the waste.  Whats with teh 27lbs of weight, that sounds abnormally heavy.

Weight vest.....maybe a combo. Belt for easy ditching, vest to make up weight needed. Side benefit maybe better weight balance.

I went from hard weights on a nylon belt  to a soft-belt and back to hard weights on a rubber belt. I usually don't hike a long ways anymore so the hard weights don't hurt as bad. Or maybe its all the extra padding....lol. The rubber belt is a lot more comfortable.

Dunno. 7mm FJ and I'm about 190-195 at 5'10''.
I actually lost 2 lbs off my belt with the new suit.
The soft weights don't dig into my lame back like the hard weights do. That was the reason for my switch.
I still have the hard weights from my older belt. Maybe I'll have to go that route.

I'm 6'4" 245ish and wear about 28 pounds and wear a yazbeck like you...you're lighter and less fat so maybe that is a lot of weight? I dunno...if you don't gotta fight to stay on the surface then I say you're all good? But I'm sure there's a fancier more precise way to figure it out.

Rubber weight belts stick like griptape to wetsuits, not too much slippage.

Instead of the traditional 4-5lb scuba diving lead weights, which are bulky, maybe try some of the newer type freediving weights.

The newer weights would be spread around more and not concentrated in the backbreaker position.

Can someone chime in on this? What are these weights called or who manufactures them?

Good luck tote!

I have a Rob Allen rubber belt with the Tin Man pinch weights,(can be bought through MAKO spearguns) i like it but it still  slips if the belt isnt tight enough,

I also have a Sea soft weight harness, its for sale too.

You could always stitch velcro to the inside of the weight belt.   :smt003

For a bad back, harnesses are probably the best way to go.  Or split the weight between a weight vest and belt.

With 27 lbs and the Yaz when I'm at the surface, perpendicular to the water line, I inhale and hold my breath the waterline is just below my chin.
When I exhale all my breath it is right about between my nose and eyes.
I am a little positively buoyant with this weight, where I like to be.
Maybe I'll weigh each soft weight individually to make sure they actually weigh what they state they weigh.

If solid weights hurt your back, you might be wearing them too high. With a rubber weight belt, you'll be able to keep the weights low on your hips, which will also help you get a higher capacity  breath

I dont know about the vest type but for a while I used the weight belt suspenders.two problems I found out about this is the weight is not that much on your back but now your shoulders are bearing alot of the weight.then the second is when your upside down in the water every now and then the suspenders slip of your arms
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I use  those torpeedo style weights (  I think what joe is referring too )    about 1 - 2 lbs each      I love the plain rubber belts as you can cinch it tight enough to keep from slipping around.   At depths, your body compresses which loosens other belts, causing them to ride up your back,,, painful.    I prefer to keep my belt lower to my hips.     With 26 lbs  I'm neutrally buoyant at 12'- 15' depth.        Thickness of your wetsuit will determine your weight requirement.

Have you thought about using the soft weights just in the back area? To keep the belt from sliding up you can try one of these.

I have a few back and hip issues myself so will be trying the harness. I will prob get a crotch strap as well.
