Do people normally use the scupper plugs to fill the scupper holes or do you leave them open?

I prefer to stay dry so I assume you would use them.  But then again the only kayak I have ever owned were white water kayaks and we don't have scupper holes.  So what is with the scupper holes?
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

scupper plug when on fresh/flat water........do not scupper when in the salt/waves slapping over your kayak.

I have them, used a couple of times. Don't use them anymore.

The new draining ones might make me reconsider.

I plug the ones closest to me so gear does not slip out accidentally.

Anything that can fall thru a scupper hole will fall thru a scupper hole. Sinkers, lures, loose hooks, bullheads, small knives, well you get the idea.

I plugged mine a few times n calm water but found after a few hours the water that was in the yak from paddle drips, my hands, wave slaps and bringing lines with fishes was pretty nasty and I would have been better off with them unplugged to rinse out.

My ride is pretty dry anyway and I haven't had plugs on board for several years. Just dress to keep the butt dry if it bothers you.

The only time I have used scupper plugs was under the seat of the Necky Vector I used to paddle, if I didn't it would be a wet ride. On my current kayak I never plug the scuppers its always good to know that water can get out in any situation.

i dont use any plugs,in fresh or salt.but" the pro angler is not a kayak"
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

my old yak was a wet ride, the new T13 is MUCH drier ride at the delta this week. My butt got just a little wet on one side from leaning over and the water coming up thru one seat hole. Im gonna try the seat plugs next time out, but I agree with the thot of "if it is a possibility to get swamped-ocean, big boat goes by, fast river, then leave em out."

Ocean kayak makes one way scuppers that let water out and keep it from coming in. I love them, keeps water out and dry even when on the salt.
