My new bug.

Some of my Asian brothers might remember these from the old country, Giant Asian Centipede. Very aggressive, venomous and lively. His name is Velcro. I might have to get another to drop into Mooches waders for a good show. He's just a pup, at ten inches. And yes, it would make a great wacky rigged Bass bait.

Nasty little sucker.....i wouldnt tangle with it.

He's a no touch 'em. Ive had some highly venomous snakes before, Puff Adders, a Cobra, Rattlers and Copperheads, this little jewel gets the same respect and treatment.

What is the allure to owning exotic venomous creatures?  I don't begrudge you your hobby, just genuinely curious.

For me, I've never once thought that my life could use a Gila monster in it, and rattlers are shoot on sight. Maybe I need to broaden my perspective.

Also, I thought that owning this stuff was illegal and generally exchanged on the black market. Don't want to end up on Wild Justice.

Dont know. Its been twenty years since ive had any poisonous snakes, and ten years since my last snake, im over the snakes, I feel they need more room or left in the wild personally, tho If someone has a very large cage and proper care who am I to judge. And captive bred. Bugs on the other hand can be kept in a smaller cage and make a wicked cool pet I think.
But what is the allure of shooting snakes on sight? Snakes avoid humans, kill tons of destructive rodents and are a crucial part of the eco-system. Most snakes are eaten by other animals. I know its a huge money maker in parts of the country and the snake roundups are a way of life for some folks but it just don't make sense to me. If its close to the house ( or in it) I could see someone killing it instead of capture and relocating if thats what they want, but in the wilds I say let it be. Seems snake shooting is handed down generation to generation.
Poisonous snakes are illegal to own without license, but bugs and spiders are not. Gilas are very protected and with good reason, people used to shoot them on sight too, and Eagles, hawks, wolves, whatever gets within sight. Dont get me wrong, I love shooting and have taken out plenty of vermin, rats mostly, with a few agro coons and when the jays start with the riot on the bird feeders, Im pumping up my crossman, but snakes?
Most normal people think its weird to keep the critters Ive kept, but this new one is fascinating to watch.

Okay, I got to ask, is that thing legal to bring into this country?

When I was at the store, I checked out a few of the Kings they have, badass collection, and they said why not one of these, I said my girl wont let one in the house, they all looked up with a collective, and THIS is OK??? Everyone agreed my girls a keeper!

Saw lots of those bugs when I was stationed on Iwo Jima back in 86.  Most of them were between 6 to 12".  Lots of small scorpions also.

What's the life span of those puppys?

I do not mind people owning dangerous animals or insects. But they should all be indigenous to our country. And in many cases to the area in the country where we live.  Pythons taking over in the everglades. and Crocodiles and Alligators Found in areas where they should not be. Many types of fish get transported to areas to places they should not be. 

I dont think it could live in the wild here, it would die the first cold night. After Nancy kills me that is. They have to be kept warm and moist. I have a plexiglass lid on top of the screen with some small holes. They can chew thru screen so the top is ten inches above anything in the cage he can climb. Two cage system is smart, when I had my nasty snakes, I had pro cages with partitions and two water bowls, never gave them a chance to tag me, ever. The Cobra was the only one that had me worry and I had to pass him on, that was one sinister critter, sneaky smart and look you right in the eye.
Sorry bout your Rosy, I had an Eastern Indigo for 25 years....
I dont know the life span but I know that if they get fed too much they dont live as long as ones that are kept lean and mean. A handfull of crickets once a week and a small mouse once a month, store bought food only, no bug wars, they can pass on internal parasites.
