Good idea. Thread it on a hook, and your good to go. I haven't tried that at tiki, but I think it's a good idea.

As far as stripers go sure why not especially if you've found them in stomachs already.

I've often wondered if crawdads would be good sturgeon bait.  In the bay system one of the sturgeon's main diet is (are?) the tiny little clams. Along with other shelled creatures like crabs and shrimp.  I woned what they eat upstream, I'll bet they'd love a crawdad. But even with that said I've never tried it.

Now the most important part is that you report back after you try'em and if you're in sturgeon country, be prepared.

I've found whole fresh water clams in their stomach.  But how would you hook them?

I hook them through the tail and back into the small of the back, this allows them to still swim. Crucial to allow them to swim I think.
I pulled 7 craw dads out of a 22 inch Striper last year from the AR.
DIDN'T EAT THEM. Not as hard core as BigJim! Haha

I caught a striper in the AR with crawdads in its belly. I read on the fish sniffer that people pick them up at rice fields when they are being drained.

I don't know about the rice fields but the little sloughs that the farmers built to hold water or drain water.at the end of the season those go dry and people go and harvest them.they are expensive I hear a bucket is going for 20-40$ I think.

So the farmers charge by the bucket? The way it was explained to me, people just walked up to these drainage points and took as many as they wanted. Good thing I haven't gone out there and picked me up some crawdads. I don't want to run into some angry farmer thinking I'm stealing  :smt068from him. Thanks for the heads up.
