I use a painters extension from Walmart.
This is a vid of me trying it out for the first time.
At the end of the video I show pictures of the mount.
I have 3 different sized rod holders. Three attached to my Plano box, Ram Mount rocket launchers right behind the seat that extend to the side for trolling and three flush mount Scotty rod holders up front. I can put the extension far away from me or straight over head, high or low, from the back, side or front. Pretty much from any possible angle I want.
On the extension I wrapped rope around the handle then rubbed Great Stuff all over it to keep it in place. This allows me different diameters so it fits in all three rod holders w/o moving around too much inside.
Lately I have found that it's easiest (for me) to wear it on my head. Reason being is that I can easily turn it on and off when I want and not waste precious battery life.
Oh yea, the extension floats too.

I use a Mono-Pod, availible cheaply on Ebay or Amazon like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Dolica-WT-1003-67-Inch-Lightweight-Monopod/dp/B000VZS2EU/ref=sr_1_2?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1350137798&sr=1-2

And to make any "Stick" even better, try adding one of these articulating mounts!
http://www.amazon.com/Pedco-UltraMount-Ball-Socket-Head/dp/B000KNNRHA/ref=sr_1_26?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1350137979&sr=1-26&keywords=tripod+ball+head

A lot like a RAM mount for your camera  :smt044  Attaches to the same screw on a tripod/monopod (10/24?)

I hear ya there Tote.  Wish I had all day battery life so I could just leave it on all the time.  I was wondering if someone that has the remote control for the GP can tell me if you can turn it on and off by the remote to save battery life?  If it did that alone it would be worth it to me to get one  :smt002

Al.  I have the remote and love it.  You can turn the entire system off while not using it and with only the remote in hand, you can everything on and and start recording.  I arrange all record settings prior to launch, but you can even change settings if you like.  The remote displays the exact same menu screen and options as the camera would if you were interfacing directly with it.   The only draw back (very small one) is that it takes several seconds between pushing the power button and powering up.  You then have to push the button again in order to start recording.  Makes it impractical to get fight footage with small fish because they are in the boat before the camera is even powered up.  With large fish like WSB and big lings/hali, you have plenty of time to get some bendo footage.  Ive already lost one remote to water though, so leash it up or something.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
