Hmmm, Maybee it's just me, but headers on posts are/should be clean'ish

Well I know we are all adults here, but my kids look at the screen as they walk by and when I introduce others to the NCKA site (sometimes at work) The first thing they see is Fuck or Dick in the post. It puts people off (me included) We all use the site and sure, The Andy/dick thing Had me rollin on the floor (OMG)... Fuckin A's? Whats next. I like to openly look at this site where ever I go. When others see us. is this where we want this stuff. If we could keep it in the posts (And Andy in your wet suit) It would make it so that at first blush, we look like we have a bit of class... Sponsors and others look at our site and judge us by it's content... What do you think? Moderators?

  It's a hard job filtering out the Net. Kids see and
hear things Parents wish they wouldn't until there Adults.

I don't think the mods should be put in the position of checking for offensive language.

On the other hand I agree with you 100%.

This site is so clean that I guess the little bit of stuff that does show up just stands out.

I also think that we should lead by example, otherwise we become no better than the rest.

Think of how we write our posts before submitting it ... would you want your little girl to read that?

Mods put the garbage out when it gets to be too much but for the most part the respect and good nature of our members is genuine, I'm sure if you just put it out there folks will be respectful enough to abide.

 

Good discussion.  Where do YOU guys want to draw the line?  We've never moderated language here unless it was part of a personal attack on another member.  For the most part, we try to be hands off.

I have a potty mouth when out fishing and hanging with friends, but I agree. If you want to drop a bomb for emphasis at least edit it, you f***ers! 

I also agree that the mods should not have to police these things and a simple PM to the offender would probably work wonders. (As I bet this thread will, too.)

I think the zombies must have written those lame-brain profanities.

I was referring to the headers only... As you go threw the group and posts, you get to know what ones not to open with the kids around. I am a mechanic and well, Not perfect in my verbal addresses to knocked knuckles ect... When scrolling threw the forum not having it blaring out (and It does) would be nice for me and those looking at the/our ('cause we all represent ourselves as members) web site the first time with the wife... Could be a deal breaker for a newbie or Woman thinking about coming out with us.

I think an occasional reminder like this thread might just do the trick.  Censorship is a slippery slope IMHO but a friendly reminder to keep it clean will likely be enough.

I am sure minors read the site.  We need to be considerate about them too with the proper language.

I think this is a great discussion. My 5yo daughter loves to look over my shoulder as I'm reading or posting on NCKA. And I know that I'm probably guilty of colorful language at times. However I do agree that as others have stated this topic will  probably be enough to "moderate" the issue. So now that it's out there I suggest we sit back and see how it unfolds. We can always readdress it if necessary.

I saw the A's header and thought about it for a while.
One nice thing about this site is somehow we manage to moderate ourselves.
This thread is a perfect example.
I agree I don't like seeing it in the headers and I do like the F&^$ typed rather then the offensive word.
Warning, if you watch any of my videos, I can't type F&^%% when I say it but I do edit most of the bad words I say OTW.
I also understand when, in the heat of the moment, someone does not edit what they type.
It's pretty rare but it happens.
I personally don't read EVERY post so I certainly wouldn't want to have to be tasked with looking at every word to make sure it isn't profane.
It is not out of anyones realm to send a kind PM to another member if they find a post offensive either. We are all adults (well most..a few kids) and moreover we all act the part.
