First a great big thank you to the guys at Headwaters Kayak Shop in Lodi!  Without their support I wouldn't have been able to do this.  A great big thanks to Tony (Novofish) for the graphic design and everyone who showed up this morning ready to help and have fun!

First thing this morning the fishermen were assembled on the shoreline rigging their poles, setting up downriggers and tying final leaders for a day of slaying the fish.  Rob and Adam were putting the final touches on the salmon gear, Steve, Naoaki and Joe set up for trout and bass.  In the early morning light I collected registration forms, affixed wristbands, and handed out wedding ring spinners to the guys as thanks for showing up.  Dan and Bill showed up with a trailor full of yaks behind the Headwaters van with a very sleepy Ethan (Dan's boy) in the back seat and we munched doughnuts while chuckling at the continued set-up in progress.

As the sun rose and the launch time of 7am arrived, the guys were off over the lake and into a light breeze under a clear blue sky.  Chatting with Shelley (eyecooktoo) and Dan in the sunrise I contemplated fishing, but the lure of a quiet chair was too much and I found my location for most of the day ready for occupation.  After a while, Shelly went off to find some fish and Dan took Ethan out in search of the same, leaving me there to snooze :)  it was great :)

Later, around 9:30 Fishbucket and his wife Linda showed up and launched as well to news that teh only fish caught thus far had been by Adam and odds were good for winning a prize :)  for the rest of the day, only sporadic reports of trout came in and I heard that sandbag was hopping around on shore collecting lots of trash :)

Although the fish in Folsom were not cooperating today, three anglers caught legal fish and nearly everyone reported at least getting bit once.  From the beach where I was resting and enjoying some non-baby time in the sun I saw fish jumping regularly throughout the day, but it seems they were doing it just to frustrate the fishermen.

the results at 1pm were something of a surprise, as I really thought more fish would have been caught, but after putting in 5 solid hours of work the final tally was:

First:  Adam Koons (ATD): 1 fish: Smallmouth bass, released, 15.5" for 170.5 points   =   Bending Branches Carbon Paddle, 9" A.C. Minnow and $60 in cash

Second:  Rob Knowles (RacinRob): 1 fish: trout, released, 12" for 132 points   =   Stohlquist PFD, 9" A.C. Minnow and $25 in cash

Third:  Bill Becket (BioBill1): 1 fish: trout: kept, 10.5" for 105 points   =   Rapalla Fillet Knife, rainbow dodger, Expanding Bump Board and $15 in cash

Trash Prize:  Joe Gallina (Sandbag): Most Trash by a lot (a full trash bag x 2)   =   Rapalla folding fillet knife with stainless steel odor bar and a Boomerang Line snip

After the prizes were awarded we all dug in to a great pot-luck featuring grilled chicken, roast chicken, grilled salmon, cookies, cupcakes, pasta salad and more :)  yum!

It seems that in this series, it is still anyone's game, especially since Amador and the port are also the "any 5 legal fish" format...

Thank you to everyone who showed up in support of this new Series, I had a great time and hope to continue hosting these events.  In the end its all about having fun and growing the sport in a way that showcases a belief in resource stewardship through kayaking and fishing.

I only have a few pictures from the morning...but I know more will appear :)

Congrats to all the winners and thank you Jim for putting this event together.  Sorry I couldn't make it this time.
