Looking to keep my deck clear and was browsing options on the Ram website.  Saw they have a Ram Wedge Adapter coming out to which a Ram Tube could be attached.  Given location it looks as though your pole would be readily by your side.  Potential draw back - unless you angled it just right it could get in the way of padding.

What do you guys think?  What experiences good or bad have you had with the Ram Tubes?  I would assume you would want the 1.5" ball - more surface area and less apt to slip.

I've never used Ram tubes. From what I hear if you troll with one make sure you have your rod leashed to the kayak. A decent fish will pull the holder down when trolling and your rod will exit the boat. Just what I've heard.

Rob is correct. I used to have a couple on my kayak but have removed them & gone to Scotty flush & surface mounts. I actually broke one of the plastic ram balls right off. If you must go with the ram make sure you get the ones with the metal ball. The ram mounts are great for electronics though.

Thanks - that's the feedback I was looking for.  I like to troll; time to consider other options.

Interesting; go to 4:35 in this video.  2013 upgrade to Cuda eliminates the flush mount rod holders behind the seat and replaces with Ram balls and tube.  I could achieve the same effect with the wedge adapter.

Dan - Victor, can you order the 2013 rod tip holder?  I'd like to upgrade my current one; since the boat didn't change I'd assume it would be a direct swap.

It does swap. I did the upgrade on my kayak. PM me so I don't forget.

I use and love the ram tubes on my revo. I have them mounted behind the seat so when I want them out of the way I can just swing em up. I also use a short section of 1 1/2" pvc pipe under the tube for it to rest on. This eliminates any possibility of the tube being pulled down. I makes it rock solid without having to over tighten the ball gripper. It also relieves a lot of the stress on the ball joint. You can pound your fist on it and it won't budge. When they are deployed they also serve as perfect arm rests too.

Jonesz, any chance you might post a pic? I have a RAM tube on my new Eddyline, and I'm considering getting two Scotty rocket launchers for the flush mounts behind the seat that Dan installed for me. I am concerned by all the flex in the plastic around the track that I have observed. Tubes will be a big departure for me, but I have heard some good things about them.
