So here's one that Eric (abking) reminded me of the other day:  Why are steelhead almost never caught at sea....as bycatch or whatever?  I read somewhere that the current thought is that they feed deep on the edge of the continental shelf, so they're not in the line of fire too much.  But it seems that draggers would pick them up.  maybe they do and they're not reported?  or maybe draggers don't work that deep?  Big draggers are required to have observers onboard, i think.

Misidentified as salmon most likely.I was in Washington when I was a teenager can't remember the name of the beach but it was a big thing catching them off the surf they used big spin-glo with a hoochie or feather behind it. I didn't have any luck but saw quite a few caught.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Mickfish.  That would be on the west side of Whidbey Island in the Bush Point area.  They catch winter runs there in a seam that forms right along the beach.  It's almost like a river seem with the "holding water" being the inner beach side.

You almost never hear about them being caught while trolling for salmon (the commie guys never even get them), yet they migrate all over the north pacific.  Sometimes they're caught nearshore, near their home streams as you guys say, but almost never offshore.

Unfortunately I was drinking to much one night when I had a conversation with a marine bioligst who studies and monitors the steelhead near HMB.  Actually Mooch knows her from REI.  Maybe he had the same conversation with her and can remember better details.  Anyway she mentioned to me something about it being related to a feeding pattern.???  Makes sense but I am hoping Mooch can add to this if he every talked to her about it.

Great... It's good to see you and I can provide valuable information to the wonderful people of NCKA.  Hopefully she didn't tell us who shot JFK....

Mooch, it is only a theory but the rumor is a Filipino kayak fisherman was seen fleeing from a tall building at the time JFK was shot. The only distinguishing mark other than the kayak was a well endowed apron.  If you see someone who matches this description please report him the FBI.
