Hello,

I have been complaining about my shoulder for 3 months now.  I think I fell coming out of a broccoli field in June or July.  I really noticed it the day I took my dad out with scallen in Monterey.  I never had so much pain.  It was an 8 out of1 0 for about 5 days.  Finally had an MRI last week and I have arthritis in my shoulder.  I'm not even 40 yet!  I guess I abused my body enough in my youth.  I'm going to get a series of cortisone injections to see if it will be normal again.  Either way, better or worse, Dr. Davis is writing a prescription for Hobie.  Look for an Ultra 4.7 to come up for sale soon.

Welcome to the club..the effed up shoulder club that is.
You will not regret getting a Hobie to compensate for the shoulder woes.
Let me know if the injections give you any relief. They have never worked for me.

My brother-in-law needs a shoulder operation. Due to 2000 carrier landings. But won't get it because it is one of the most painful surgeries to get. Maybe your insurance will buy your Hobie, NOT. Oh well so let us know if you get to write it off your taxes. If so maybe I can get one due to the pain in my elbow I get because It was broke at work years ago. I'd love to write one off my taxes. I wasn't able to write off the hot tub due to wife's bad back.

I have been super busy at work,  that alone has made it impossible to get away and fish.  The shoulder feels ok now, but I know it will be trashed after paddling for ten minutes.  I think bucking hay at 18-20yo might have done it.  It has no chance to heal as my 20 month old daughters love being held by me only when I stand!   They don't care how much pain I'm in.   I do think the Hobie is the key.  If I can get a Revo, I should be able to get out mid week almost weekly in Monterey through the end of the year.  So yes JJQ,  SWS reunion time.  So do I go REVO or AI?  The A wont work.  I rented one for Albion and headed back after 5 min.  I think I'm too big for the A.   I imagine for quick trips before work the Revo is the ticket.  Someone correct me here.....  The AI is this time next year right?

Thanks for the insight and love guys...

Sorry to hear about your shoulder problems but welcome to the dark side!  I have two torn rotator cuffs, my Doctor wanted me to get surgery for both shoulders but I never did.

why didn't the A work?

My fat ass felt suppy tippy in it.  I was not comfortable at all.  I just felt tippy man.  I feel solid on the 4.7 in rough conditions.  At Albion I was like no way am I going to do this.   Maybe just to narrow.  I am kinda tall so maybe that't it.  The rudder also kept coming out of the water too.  Tippy + No rudder + big seas + hung over = not a good day to be out on a brand new rented narrow little yak.

Now the Revo at PIF,  felt solid.

I was looking to upgrade from my float tube for a while but the thought of paddling a yak deterred me (Torn rotator cuff in my shoulder).  Saw a video of the mirage drive and knew that was my calling.  The rest is history... :smt003

I feel for you.  About 2 years ago my back started hurting.   There was a constant pain in the right lower side of my back.  After a bone scan the Dr. said I had arthritis.  I was only 46.  Luckily, it's not too bad now.  I just live with it.  Usually, I don't need pain killers.

After I injured my forearms pulling my old kayak thru the sands, I got a Revo 13.  I'm really happy with it.  I just got a Revo 11 since I fish fresh water only.  I get sea sick.

PM me, I'm thinking of selling the Revo 13.

Etienne blew his shoulder out last year on a 15 mile paddle out of Moss to the Pajaro. He rested it over the winter and did rehab and is almost 100% so you may not need to get a Hobie. He did start using a carbon fiber paddle which helped as well as gradually getting back into it.

Scott,  this is a blessing.  Even if the shoulder heals, I get to tell the wife I have to have one by dr orders.  I kicked Sara's Revo at PIF Salmon Slam and preferred the kicking over stroking.

Jeff, too funny man. I won't be bitching about trolling for no salmon on the opener next year.  Hobies are made for sipping the beverage of choice while trolling.
