Hi everyone, I was just curious if there are any spots/areas in the sacramento area that has pike in the rivers? I read they aren't a native fish here and they have poisoned a couple lakes that somebody placed them in. I use to fish for them with my dad when I was little back in PA and miss their aggressive behavior.

Wrong pike. You are thinking of pickerel. Those are up north. Around here we have Sacramento pike
Minnow. Way different. If any species of northern pike were to make its way into our watershed that would be disastrous.

Try for salmon in the sac right now. They taste better.

I'm not sure what a pickerel is. I use to fish for northern pike, muskee, and walleye a lot because they were so aggressive.

That is a weird looking fish. Thanks for the picture of it. Is it a aggressive fish?

I have no idea what it is this is a pic from a poster I got at the sportsmans expo but since it's a minnow I don't think you could get them with a hook.The pic is not to scale so I have no idea how big they get.

They get to be about 5 pounds.
They will hit spinners and worms. The smaller ones are great bait for stripers.

Northern Pike were indeed released in some lakes in NorCal.  Lake Davis is the most prominent, where CDFG poisoned the entire lake and replanted in order to get rid of them.  I also enjoyed fishing big pike back east--but that's where they belong.

pickerel= walleye

I fished a lot of northern pike and walleye when I am in Canada.

Pickerel and Walleye are not at all related. They are in the same Family though. They are both in the pike Family. They way different than each other. I can explain further, but this should do. Technically there are no Pike in Ca, but I bet there are a few hiding around somewhere.

They fight almost like a suckermouth not bad,caught one with bait a long time ago while fishing for stripers the thing was huge.all the older guys I know call em bigmouths.I've also caught a few small ones tossing the rapala jointed minnow in the trout pattern near dusk after we were done playing in the river
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
