Hey guys. Just joined up a week or two ago and figured I should introduce myself. The main reason I joined was my GF and I were buying a kayak and I was going to check in with you guys on your thoughts about it. But turns out it didn't matter. We ended up with a used Native Magic 14.5 tandem. The main purpose was for us to be able to take our 2 dogs (shiba & american eskie) out on flat water. What she didn't know was that it's a cinch to swap the seats for use as a single and that I'd be taking it out fishing.

I've been fishing since I was a kid but have been on a huuuge hiatus. It used to be mostly trout streams or cattle boats for salmon and cod (remember the 90's anyone?). So at any rate, I rigged up the yak today with a milk crate with some pvc rod holders used some old rods I had in the garage and headed out. I've been kayaking before, but never really open water, so I just chilled in Monterey between Breakwater and the aquarium, trying to pull something outta the kelp. Hammerheads, jigs, squid, nothin taking it. Oh well, it was a nice day on the water and got to figure out how to manage a pole and a paddle. Also, my DIY kayak cart only broke once in the parking lot :)

I had an anchor on board with all the riggins (float, qr, plenty of line for scope [i think thats what its called]), but ended up only using the quick release. Didn't have a kelp clip like I do on my boogie board for diving, but I managed. Things worked out pretty well. Can't find the exact thread that I copied, but it's somewhere on the ncka site.

So there's my intro, hoping to post some awesome reports eventually, but I basically have to relearn how to fish.  Oh yeah, and is it worth it to keep my $25 folding grapple anchor from West Marine, or is there a cheaper option that would work for me?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Seriously one of the best ones out of the multiple forums I've joined. I'm recently funemployed so I hope to get out pretty often, but the kicker is the GAF, which so far is at the point of I can only go if she's doing something else. At least she likes me fishin better than diving! If only could apply to jobs while on the water soaking bait...
