If you like your ass in the water all day then the pwoler will fill(hehe) that need. If youve never used the rod pod how would you even know its attributes?

I remember winning a kayak at BAM IV.
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't that a rod pod in the middle of my kayak?????

Bwahhhhh :smt044
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

Another Prowler 15 loyalist here  :smt006 IMO, it's a kayak that's tried and true just like the ol scupper pro. The tridents are nice, especially with the upgraded rod pods but I was never a fan of the sonar shield. And this is where the Ultra series shine. The fellas at New Zealand came up with the brilliant reversable center hatch (which you can still modify if you want to store your rods in the hatch).

I still have my classic P-15. And most say it's a wet ride - but if properly "attired" with a dry suit or dry pants, problem solved....and let's remember, this is a water sport  :smt002. You still get wet when paddling through high surf.

If OK gave me a chance to design a kayak fishing platform, I'd bring back the P-15 and put a smaller / narrower reversable center hatch but still keep the same specs of the P-15  :smt045

...just my 2 cents

I was thinking the question was for the non rod pod kayak compared to the one that has one. So yours is a prowler trident series.

http://www.oceankayak.com/kayaks/angler_kayaks/trident_15_angler/

Its basically the same boat. Whats being confused here is the older powler series with the new prowler-trident series. Thats why you got the rod pod Tote.

I was talking about the original P15 without the rod pod.

My point was that I have used the rod pod before because I had a kayak with a rod pod.
I stand by my earlier post when I said~IMO, the Prowler 15 is the best bomb proof kayak ever made.
And I was talking about the original, without the rod pod.

A cup of bleach and fill the boat with about 10 gallons. Swish back and forth. Rinse once and you are set. I was going into a surf landing at Lovers with my first WSB. No way I was strapping it to the hull. hehehe

The rod pod is efficient and way worthy. Sorry you dont like it. Im happy for you that youve found a boat that suffices all your needs.

Staying dry is fun. Also staying free of wash over the deck paddling into a stiff wind with wind waves combing the deck every wave is not my idea of a fun paddle. My first plastic boat was a scupper pro. The best and fastest Ocean Kayak made. Its just wet too. Plus its not for the larger angler at all.

I have a Prowler 13 and I love it for the high Sierra lakes and the lower San Joaquin and Kings rivers.  GorTex paddling pants and/or sculper plugs solve the wetbutt issue.  After a couple trips to the beach I saw the need for an easily accessible hatch for rod storage.  I bought a used Cobra Fish N Dive for about the price of losing my gear to Davie Jones three times.  The FnD is a super stable barge, and I love it on the salt.  Tridents are good boats too, but I could not find one used in my price range at the time.

Mike -

I agree and besides being a superior paddling kayak, it doesn't leak like the Trident. The Trident is a superior fishing platform which is the reason why I sold my P15 and kept my T15. Yeah I upgraded to the modular rod pod cover and it still leaks. I carry a pump and sponge and accept the fact it is going to take on water in the surf. All that said, when I head south for big game, I take the T15.

Alas ScottV, I'm sorry we digressed to other topic besides your original question. The boats you referred to are basically the same boat. At REI all you will find is the prowler -trident boat. Paddle one of these and you will be essentially paddling both of them. I have rolled my T-15 in the surf and had just a cup or two of water in it. I know folks who have overloaded their Tridents and had issues with water intrusion through the hatch seal. Operator error both times I know of. I still encourage you to buy from a local paddleshop who will be there for you should trouble or questions arise. Have fun and be safe. Craig

I am still not sure which one I want.  I like the Trident 13 but I might be able to get a Tarpon 120 from a buddy for a nice price.

My main uses will be the river and the coast.  I plan to use it a lot in the ocean and through the surf.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I'd get a 14-16 ft kayak if your in the ocean a lot, but that is just my opinion.

I dont have much experience with paddling, so take my advice for what it is.

I had a Hobie Outback for close to 2 yrs now. and love it for the lakes and even the rivers for trolling.
Then ravensblack loaned me his T-15 for a day and I was sold.  I wanted the largest fishing yak for the ocean and bay.  I have since bought one and in the process of rigging it up. Have the rudder installed already and used it on the American river 2 weeks ago.  Works awesome with it.  Every stroke you go forward.  I feel it could be a little larger profile.  another month and I'm realy for the salt.
Like everyone's saying... try them all before you buy.
