I have heard they are good steamed. They are also one fish that is asexual. A male can turn into a female. I do not remember if it is due to age or lack of opposite sex. I'm not sure exactly how it goes but learned that in a marine biology class I took in high school.

I have caught and eaten four of them, both male and female. They taste great. I guess it depends on how you cook them, just like anything.
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

Correct. Steamed is the best way to prepare, 10 minutes per inch of thickness. And it DOES taste like lobster but not as tough as lobster.  :smt005

Drop Em Down,

I swear under penalty of perjury that Sheephead taste like mega a$$.  You do NOT want to eat them.

Next time you catch a 10lb goat, kindly forward it my way.  Like the humanitarian brother I am, I will personally dispose of it for you.

The only way sheephead taste good is in ceviche and also steamed Chinese style.

Fried, grilled, baked all make the meat mushy and very nasty.

Boiled would probably be okay too, in a soup or cooled off and flaked into a sheep-patty.

Try it at least once, but you'll probably long for more rockfish afterwards  :smt002
