Chris' is running a squid trip on Sunday ... http://www.chrissfishing.com/

From USA Fishing

Quote
On Sunday 10-14 Chris’s Landing in Monterey reported Humboldt squid in the 5 to 10-pound range have shown up outside of Carmel, and it is difficult to get through the squid to get to the bottom for the rockfish.

Yeah you eat the body, the little 5-10 pounders are the best eating. When they are doing trips out of HMB I will go on one. I have seen people make poki out of the tentacles.

I was told the leading edge of the Monterey Canyon  700 to 900 Ft,   When I fish for them from my boat it was straight out from Moss Landing about  6 to 7  miles out.  After seeing what these  Humbolt Squid do to each other there is no way I would fish for them from a kayak, these squids we where catching are in the 25 to 35 lb range and would attack one another as we would bring them up. If there is enough fishing lines in the water you could actually have them directly under the boat causing them to go into a full frenzy attacking each other and pulling back down to the bottom.  It's way cool to see and as mention the bite marks are the size of a very large parrot  Pulling up a Humbolt Squid is like pulling up a Volkswagen Bug from the bottom with both doors wide open. On second thought it may be a blast catching one of these from a yak.   Robert   (Sanity Check)

The Chubascho out of Randy’s Sport Fishing put in 66 of the small Humboldts for 4 anglers on Saturday.

What a pussie!  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 I think if you have pole spear or harpoon you could kill them in the water before landing. If it is a smaller one you can hang it over the tankwell and cut the head off and let the body fall into the well, then chuck the head overboard.

that what I was thinking. gaff the mantle then get a big ass knife and cut off the arms. all over the water. That AI sounds like a great platform for that....
