first time tomales help

Been out to tomales with my outback a few times and now I'd like to fish a little. Bought a 6'6" rod 20-50-lb range and have an old Penn 285. Guess that will do. haven't fished salt water since I was a kid.
Don't particularly care what I catch as long as it's edible. Any recommendations how to set up and bait to use would be helpful.

Will most likely be near Hog Island and Millers cove. Is there likely to be halibut ?

bring a sabiki rig for live bait if they are in like 3 yrs ago.
set up a 3 way swivel and just drift.
