Joseph Narkevitz and I fished Back hawk Lake Saturday. Black Hawk Lake is a beautiful mountain lake about thirty miles below Yosemite Park that I have fishing privileges to.  When the wind isn’t blowing hard and it’s a nice warm day it can be some of the best warm water fishing you could hope for…big bluegill, crappie, redear, and really big bass.
Well the wind was blowing and the weather was a tad bit cool. I pointed out some good spots for Joseph then worked the shore line for a while…Nada!
After a while I started marking huge schools of fish…crappie!
They were bunching up around grass beds. I started peddling back and forth trolling a fly through the school after about ten minutes I got my first good hit
It was hand size. I was using a six wt rod with a full sinking line with a size 8 fly tied on the end. I caught three more crappie within an hour then the wind died down and it warmed up a bit just enough for the crappie bite to quit.
So I went after some Bass. Got a good bass in some weed beds that I fought with for a few minutes when I finally got close enough to boga him he was thoroughly wrapped up in Hidrila weed. I reached down and grabbed weed, bass and all. He slipped out the bottom of the bunch of hidrila weed I was holding and hit the water with a splash and swam off waving his fin at me.
I did catch a one small 1 lb bass. That was it I whish this weather would make up it’s mind.

Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.
