I don't know if there are any Active/Military members on the forum but if you are ever stranded on Beale AFB there is actually some good fishing there. I tend to fish on base whenever I get skunked enough times to make me feel like a fisherman again.  :smt004 I've had the best of luck at Lower Blackwelder and Frisky Lake. Texas rigged watermelon Yamamoto senko's is the way to go. The bite picks up at 0800 and is strong until 1230. Between these times I can usually pull in about 4 fish an hour. Although they are only 2-4lbs (from what I've seen). The cover is real thick, topwater crankbaits and plastics seems to be the best.

Most people fish off the bank but I have seen a couple canoe/yak anglers out there.

I've seen those ponds out there and my buddy says they have some good fishing in them.

Hey man, I wonder if I've seen you there. I live on Beale and have taken my yellow Tarpon 100 out there a couple times. The water level seems to be getting low and the weeds are getting overgrown, but I caught/released this guy three weeks back.

Fishing in uniform? Love it!

I have to take mine off here on Travis if I fish.

Yup, I'm taking advantage of my M-F schedule lunch breaks before I head to crew shift. Not a bad morale lunch.

Nice catch. Was that you that brought your kayak out like 2 weekends ago? I'm out there often. I usually go there on my lunch and drive the silver Subaru. I was thinking about bringing my kayak out there since the weeds are so thick.

Nobody has said anything about wearing your uniform while you fish out there. Maybe I ought to check the regs.  :smt005

That would be me! I recognize you and your Subaru once in awhile out there. Next time I'll come by and say hello. I'm thinking about taking the yak out to Upper Blackwelder this weekend and explore the far side of that pond. I've caught a few from that dock. As far as regs, I highly doubt there's an AFI for fishing in uniform :P

As far as Friskey Lake, I heard you have to get a key to some gate from security forces, is that true?

Yup. SF front desk. You can only go out there when they're not shooting.

I often refer fishing as "water therapy"  :smt003  Thanks for the report and picture Ad.

Don't wanna be out there when they are shooting. Beale is where we shoot the bigger guns.

Upper is a bit more challenging.  Lower and Frisky are fun, if you can't catch on Frisky then you might want to evaluate your technique.

I tend to texas rig a brushhog or wooly hawg.  Black neon works great.

Fun time for lunch is the back side of the golf course pond.  You can catch a couple dinks in a hour, just watch for golf balls.

I tend to go out on lower and Firsky on my grey Ascend yak.  Feel free to say hi.  I'm the guy with the Jeep with the big racks sticking up.

FYI, Lower is where the bigger ones are, at the Bass tourny this year the largest was caught from there.  He was around 6 lbs., and most were released back in there.

I'll be sure to say hi if I see either of you there. I'll be out this Sunday morning on an olive Native Redfish.
