I was just getting ready to post how aweful it is. Where's the color?????
Talk about bringing someone down.
I was already set for disappointment following Bejing. They did not disappoint there.
We are however still enjoying the beer and weather.

You shoulda went fishing! :smt003

Sigh, I don't know, we put on a show for you people and all we get is complaints :smt002.

It is sad that NBC edited out the memorial to victims of terrorism/war dead, replacing it with....... Ryan Seacrest

Oh Phil, please don't take it personally, but that was weird. I didn't expect it to be as epic as Beijing, but giant inflatable babies, sick children jumping on the bed, and a sky-diving queen.... wtf?  :smt044

You people are always telling us how much you love Monty Python, Harry Potter and James Bond. We thought we'd give you it all at once.

I liked watching it.  I appreciated the amount of work that went into it, the direct references to/performances by contemporary UK cultural icons, and the multinational energy that the world should be proud to muster in today's climate of violence, economic hardship and widespread need.

It's not the middle of winter with stormy seas. Have we become a group of elitist American critics?  I wanted to bring something positive to this thread as I watched the opening ceremonies, but didn't want to rock the boat of playful talk. When I saw N. Boy's name on page 3 I figured maybe he chimed in to chide you guys a bit for your negative comments, and I think he did a fine job of masking any potential bitterness in that regard in his responses.

Bring on the Monty Python - I'm here to be proud of any country's athlete who chokes back tears on the podium.

I can be a real a dick though!  So don't take my Pollyanna response personally.  I just like to find the half full part when I can.   :smt006

I too can appreciate all the time that went into it.
That doesn't mean it has to appeal to me.
If someone made a dinner that took 3 days to prepare, and it tasted like Ajax, that doesn't mean I have to like it.
I didn't like the opening ceremonies. Plain and simple.

Watching the fencing competition is interesting. NBC doesn't usually aire events like this on TV; so online access is a blessing.

The opening ceremonies had its definite moments of excitement and dullness.

Anybody notice the many empty VIP seats at some of the events? Too bad the public didn't get a chance to fill them.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Sorry guys, but I have to completely disagree with you. I am afraid it is you guys who are lame. WTF do you expect? The opening ceremonies are fluff and that is all they are supposed to be. I would bet none of you have any actual experience in what it actually takes for an athlete to achieve this level. Big surprise, the ceremony is not actually for you. It is for the athletes who have spent thousands of hours and gallons of sweat trying to get there. And even then, I thought it was pretty good.

Being american doesn't have anything to do with it and I don't think it's elitist to say they lacked energy, impact or even a unified theme.  Everything seemed random and lackluster until the march if nations.  China set the bar extremely high, London did not deliver.

+ 1 on that Art and agree the opening ceremonies did not compare to others but the opening ceremonies are fluff compared to the other aspects of the game like security. Only time will tell on the success of this olympic event.

If it was about the Athletes you would think they would have gone with a little more global appeal and not made it just about GB. Glad you enjoyed it everyone I talked to didn't but maybe it was the TV coverage. I have a friend who is working there and he said it was OK but didn't like the dependence on the use of Videos. But what about the flame not visible to the Public you gotta buy a ticket to see it That is really Lame.

:smt023 Agree! IMO, the Olympics is about the Athletes and not fairy tales.

Like it or not, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Agree to disagree....remember?
