I hit up LP with Hotplate and a couple others the other day for nothing.  Not even a nibble, then we couldn't even jig up a stinkin rockfish.  After reading Nudling's report it looks like I met his friend the Pelican.

We paddled over to a spot to toss swimbaits and saw a dolphin working a small area on the kelp line.  About 15 yards from the dolphin was this thing floating in the kelp.

"What the hell is that?"  "I don't know." "Dude, there have been landlord sightings in the past few days"  "Dude, what the hell is that thing?"

So I paddle over with Hotplate right behind me, I splash this floating thing with water and It doesn't move.  I move in closer and here is what we saw.

It is a dead (or just a deep sleeping) Leatherback Seaturtle.  Thats what I love about the ocean, you never know what your gonna find.  Here is a link if your curious.

I had the pleasure of fishing with HobieBlue today.

I met up with him at Tiki Lagun to learn some new stuff.  He took his time with me and explained it all for me.  It was great.  Bass fishing can be somewhat overwhelming and having a guy like Bryan really helps.  I got a few on the dropshot, little guys in the 12-13" range.

Bryan showed me the how-to's of froggin, and I gotta admit, its friggin awesome!  I had a couple blow ups that didn't stick, then I had a real nice LMB that got hung up in the tullies.  You really gotta put that braid to use when you get one on topwater to keep it from getting hung up.  Lesson learned.  After my mentor for the day left I kept on froggin.  It was high noon and from what I hear, not the best time for top water, but whatever, that shit is fun!  Then it happened, I finally got one to the boat.  Victory.

I've spent a good amount of time throwing top water plugs for Stripers, and now that I have top water bass confidence, I'm solid.  My secret to success in fishing is confidence in what you are doing.  Too bad they are just "lil lame bass".

Hella cool! You should change your name to leatherback!  Monterrey always seems to be teeming with life. And way to go on some tough summer bassin, looks like the frog treated you well! How many casts did it take?  :smt006

Haha, maybe 100 or so  :smt003

I dig the speed of the Hobie and most of all the ability to "hover" in a certain spot when the wind is blowing or the current is moving.  There are features like the hatches and storage pockets that I'm really happy with as well.  I also like the construction/ type of plastic.  The position you sit while peddling takes a little getting used to, the adjustment straps on my seat seem to loosen after a while and I end up slouching.  That being said, I'm really happy I bought it, Peddling for sure has its place in the world of kayak fishing.  Oh, and my girlfriend needed a kayak too  :smt044

I just saw the turtle on Channel 4 news.  Hotplate kept saying that we should tow it back to the beach, he's gonna be pissed at me now for not listening to him  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044  He probably wanted to make a wetsuit out of it, hes ultra manly like that  :smt044

I told you Jeff.  We could have made a necklace and wetsuits and cool hats.  Not to mention turtle soup.  Anyone can have a bear hide as a rug but nobody has a leatherback.
