Anyone interested in a get together to take part in the Salmon Opener on 16 July? Maybe the Oroville Wildlife Area?

They are up there already. Seen them myself. Saw them where they should not be too. Only hint I'm giving is not the river.

Anyone willing to hook a newb up and give me some tips on some spots to hit? Just got stationed out here so I'm not really familiar with the area.

Look for a hook up listed towards the end of next week.

Like trapspeed, I would love some pointers on how to do this, I was planning on shore fishing  south of the thermalito afterbay for the opener originally, then saw this post and now I'm thinking the kayak would be better.  I'm going to the tackle store this friday, is there anything that is a must have for salmon fishing?  I was thinking blue fox pixies and salmon roe...

Combat fishing at it's finest it will be super crowded. Fishing roe this time of year the squawfish tear it up. I have always had the best luck with #5 mepps, Panther Martins, Mor tec Spinners drop down a size after 9am or so. Flat,Quikfish can be good but lotta weeds this time of year. Little early for spawning but if you see any fish puffballs just below for Steelhead.

Feather may be less crowded than the AR.

We would always drive west in the WLA till we saw few cars then walk the river from there. If you take the kayak anchor right below one of the islands the fish hang there for a few deciding which way to go. Depending on the flow you can spot schools pretty easy.Check out the shallow riffles and if you see fish trying to make it through you can count on fish just below.

True but usally has less holding water and the good spots can be pretty crowded not like it used to be when eveybody was right next to the outlet.

Anyone still going. I think I will be. I plan on being on the east side in the Wildlife Area. We can meet up there if anyone wants to. I know where I will be fishing. Easy launch. Swirling pools that hold a lot of fish. I may scout tomorrow, Sat, with FF and no rods. Then bass fish after or before.

Damn!  I have to work to support the habit on Mon.  I'd only be able to make it out after 5pm, but good luck to you guys and be sure to leave a report.  Anxious to hear how things work out.

racinrob, I am pretty sure I will be out there, but not 100% yet, what time are you thinking of getting on the water?
