Good point, there is a common parasite in the slime layer of trout and salmon that makes dogs very sick.   Don't let dogs lick them.

Border collies are frickin smart but you have to be the alpha dog. 

No kidding about the alpha dog being you... we have had aussies for over 30 years and they know who to respect and who they can get away with anything. The "stay" command is critical for the safety of the dog as well a good start to who is the alpha. In the end, the dog who you work with, not against, in a patient, loving yet firm manner will be a buddy for life. 

Thanks for the salmon/trout advice...I don't fish for them or keep them if I caught them, so no problem there.  He is very good behavior-wise too.  He stays right by my side and obeys all his commands well, especially stay and sit.
