Headed to Cabo next week for a much needed vacation with the wife. I've been doing some scouting for fishing charters and kayak rental deals. Do any of my NCKA brothers and gals have any recommendations on the same plus suggestions on places to eat?
Thanks
Don

If you're near Cabo San Jose any little eatery in town is good. For fishing, go out on a Panga from the Cabo San Jose harbor (Gordo Bank Panga's) for a day. If you are on the beach you can cast the surf for anything that bites.

Also run like hell out of the airport when you get your bags and have your transportation lined up for you. You'll be approached by every timeshare establishment right after you get your bags. I call it the "Shark Tank."

Have fun down there and walk in Cabo San Lucas water district. YOu have Cabo Wabo there, Ruth Crist steak house and a lot of little bars. Just watch out for all the guys who want to sell you pot.

Most fishermen I know keep to the east cape to avoid the crowds of drunk children at cabo. I've heard great things about going for Wahoo out of San Jose del Cabo, but it's a long boat ride.

Many fisherman target Dorado unless they're trophy hunters - Marlin.

I'm sure others will pipe in with more specific recommendations.

It will be hot this time of year.

If you rent a car be carefull getting gas. The boys that pump will distract you once you give then a large bill and switch your bill for a small bill. They just laugh when caught.  :toothy9:

Go to Mi Casa up by the square. Great food. Where are you staying at? The water is desal. Never got sick from the water. We have a timeshare at Playa Grande. There is a guy, a scandinavian that takes people up the coast to private beaches for surf casting. Ask at Minervas Tackle.

Don, thanks for the heads up. Don't plan on renting a car. But we are prepared for it to be HOT! I'm bring a rod & reel setup, some lures in hopes of catching whatever from the beach or a yak if I can rent one. Panga and charter are in the plans if the $$ are right. Thanks

Don you are the man!  First the AI and now a trip to Cabo.  Scubaluis and I have been there many times and have enough info about Cabo we can write a book.

#1 Fishing Charters - Remember Cabo is world famous for fishing.

Whatever you do, don't listen to the people at the Hotel or Timeshare you are staying at.  They will steer you towards the cheaper charters.  If you spend a little more money on a fishing charter it will be worth it in the long run.  Cheap charters = cheap gear and equipment and if you are going for a fish of your lifetime you don't want to waste it on poor gear.  Look at Pisces Sportfishing.  They have a variety of boats and a very good success rate.  Next would be Minervas.  It is the best local tackle shop in Cabo and they have their own boats too.  Both of these places, will steer you in the right direction if they don't have any open boats.  You should try to get your fishing trip setup as early in the week as possible.  That way if the fishing is hot you can go out again or if the weather is bad you can reschedule for another day.  Remember one thing, Marlin will put on a show and dance but for food the Wahoo is to die for and Tuna and Dorado aren't bad either.  There is a Costco done there now and this might sound funny but take your Costco card with you.  If you are not planning on bringing you own cooler to bring fish back in you can always pick one up at Costco where they are reasonable priced as compared to expensive, cheap coolers they sell at the marina area.

#2 Places to Eat
Missiones De Kinos has great food without the tourists prices.
Ole Ole was a little pricey but has the ambiance of being on the water in the marina and the food was good.
The Gigglin Marlin - don't eat there, but they put on a great show that is worth seeing.  I think around 9:00pm.  Must see once.
Dont waste you time at Cabo Wabo unless Sammy is in town.

Have Fun!!!!!  Man I wish I could go too.

Bret
