It is getting time for me to do some hull repair on big red.  the last time I tried this I used a soldering iron and I can't say I really liked the results.  Does anyone have a better way? or some better tips?  Thanks

How big is the hole?  If not too big try this heat gun method below:

here are the all the tools i used to fix many of through-holes and deep gouges. Not pictured is the bucket of ice cold water and sponges used as cold compresses to keep it from sagging after working/torching in one area too long.

Hobieslactic welder is great for fixing cracks. Not sure who makes it but it has a feed hole in the middle of the iron to feed and pre heat material then a foot to smooth it out. Whats the nature of the repair?

harbor freight has a plastic welder for a few bucks. I filled in 8 holes from some ram mounts the 1st owner had installed. I also filled in a a wire hole for the FF.  It was simple

Solarez is what I swear by. Clean the gouges or holes, in shade,  squeeze some out, spread over area, cover with clear packing tape, and take into sunlight. Cured in three minutes. Peel tape off, and good to go. you can buy it at Adventure sports, or any motorcycle/atv/snowmobile shop. Not cheap, like $20/tube, but it goes a long ways.

that Solarez stuff sounds interesting... I looked at their website.  It is a resin with chopped fiberglass strands in it.   Bondo make a solar activated version as well, but it is just resin without the glass strands.  I don't know about using it to fill holes, but it make work for smoothing the surface of lite scratches and what not.

Sounds like the stuff I would want.  My case is more like a used kayak that got dragged everywhere and the hull is showing a lot of wear signs, as well as a previous repair by the first owner.
